  1. Thanks guys! My friend looked it up in the paperwork while I was there, and that's where he got his info telling me it was an Enforcer.

I can now tell that the front lights (including the ENORMOUS turn signals) are the same as the pic of the Enforcer. I guess it was the raised cab in the back that looked very similar to the one Beacon had, going along with the information that their website had provided me.

    RESCUE 33-55

    2006 Pierce Lance Heavy-Duty Rescue

I guess Beacon needs to check out their own site!

CAn you e-mail the photo of the plate?

  2. Something to think about...

Waterford - A local man was charged today with assault on a public safety officer after fire officials said he struck a firefighter with his SUV.

William Morell, 47, of 9 Wilson Ave., also was charged with evading responsibility and breach of peace.

The incident happened this morning while firefighters were putting out a car fire on Wilson Avenue, a small dead-end street in Quaker Hill near the Thames River.

Morell's route was being blocked by fire truck so he drove over the fire hose in an attempt to maneuver out of the narrow street, firefighters said.

“He wanted out,” Quaker Hill fire chief Matthew Carson said.

Carson said when firefighters told Morell to stop, he backed up and nearly hit one firefighter.

“He tried to back over Monte, which is my deputy chief,” Carson said.

Deputy Chief Monte Fielder said when firefighter Jason Dickey saw the man backing up toward Fielder, he began banging on the hood of his Mercedes SUV to try to get him to stop. Morell then put the vehicle in forward, knocked Fielder down and took off through the back of a driveway and into the field behind a house, looping around Wilson Avenue houses in an attempt to come out on another part of the street, fire officials said.

His path was blocked by a Cohanzie ambulance.

“I told the police officer, ‘he just ran over one of my guys. I want him arrested now,” Fielder said.

At the time, there was only one Waterford police officer on the scene and the driver apparently resisted arrest, leading three firefighters to jump on the man to aid the officer in making the arrest, fire officials said.

By then, Cohanzie and Quaker Hill firefighters had used foam to put out a fire that destroyed the front end of a silver car parked in a private driveway.

Dickey is being picked up from the hospital this afternoon after being treated for minor injuries.

Thank god his injuries are minor. My Dept. runs many MVA's and pin jobs on a busy highway. We see more of them than fire and it worries me to have the guys on the highway. I believe that highway scenes put more personell in danger than working fires. That would be a good topic to start. Anyway again I hope the injuries stay minor and the scrub in the SUV should get taste of the law!!!

  3. I know it is a little off topic, and I apologize ahead of time, so if there is an issue with the posting of this here in this thread, please let me know, and I can/will start a new thread.

I just figured I would answer a previous question someone had posted.

2000gpm is a lot of water to push with 400hp. Not saying it cannot be done , but ten years down the line with both engine and pump wear some units fail there pump test. Although the ISL in 2007 will be bumped to 425hp.

  4. Another thing I picked up off this month's First Responder Newspaper is New Hackensack's new Mack Tanker (well, actually Frankie told me about that) and Wassaic's Ford C Tanker.

Is there anyone on this forum who can assist me with getting photos of these two pieces of apparatus?? Hopefully, I will be coming up to Dutchess soon to get Poughkeepsies new Engines (I hope!) and would like to photograph these two pieces for this site and my x635Photos.com- maybe even this week.

If anyone who could help me get these photos, contact me  either via email at x635@EMTBravo.com or PM me.

Poughkeepsies new Gowans is a nice looking rig,

  5. I was in Manhattan this evening.

    Something came into my mind.

Why are there homeless veterans in this country? How can we let those who have fought for the lifestyle and securities we have in this country go homeless and hungry on a street?

Now, I am aware that some is caused by mental illness, etc, but that's not always the case.

I find this disgusting that we let our nations veterans suffer while we decide on how big of a plasma TV we should get, or how big or fast our cars can be.

Our VA's are rotting away, even with a whole new generation of veterans coming out of Iraq.

Our veterans should be cherished and well taken care of. There should be ample employment, food, shelter, and healthcare for each and every one of them....and not a single one should go forgotten. This isn't only a responsibilty of us, this is a responsiblity of our politicians, many of whom nowadays haven't even seen time in the service.

I feel what you feel ! Hundreds of people march into Black Friday with out a thought of what they spend while walking past a vet that gave his life, whether it was taken in war or taken from him/her through the war and what they saw or what they had to endure.

  6. Not for nothing, look at Noroton Heights, all rebuilt (except for the rescue) Macks.  And they have good luck.  Hey if a community, affluent or not, doesn't have the budget to purchase new apparatus well then there is really nothing to do about it.  My company had to wait to replace 3 trucks when they reached 25 / 26 years of service and all three were well used and well worn and constantly going out for repairs, we just didn' t have the $$$ and we had a decent tax base for a while but things change.  The problem is with us is that we are not "supposed" to by refurbished frontline apparatus, a decision made by the chiefs and commissioners.

For Pelham Manor but I wish them luck with the new truck.

    Izz,

I was thinking today and hoping that my reply was not going to be taken as a dig, but rather I like the old mack, but was just astonished that a district with such a base would buy refurb. The later being none of my bees wax, like it was said they are looking to buy aa new rig.

    Nice Mack!

  7. After a flood of emails (Over 75 in just under an hour) from people giving their support towards me and this site, I have reopened EMTBravo.

It was an impulsive move for me to shut down the site, but I've been under some stress lately, and some of the things going on with this site have added significantly to that. I want this site to be the best it can be, and I work tirelessly and give my all to make that happen.

To hear some of ignorant comments, both posted and emailed, I have heard recently bashing this site really got to me. To the point where I made myself physically ill over this site. This site consumes a large portion of my time, and I am very proud of it.  I'm going to refocus, I have some health issues lately and other stuff going on in my life unrelated to this site but that contributes to my stress, so that's a factor as well.

So, to the members who sent in their support, I appreciate it, and I am sorry for the impulsive move, I regret. Thanks again for the overwhelming show of support, I really needed it.  I realize what this site is to a lot of people, and it was unfair and irrational to make the move I did.

I have trouble telling people to back off when things are overwhelming me, and I constantly try to make everyone happy, and that's going to need to change. I realize there are some not very nice people out there who enjoy causing trouble for me and this site, and are miserable and impossible to please, and I will be working to phase those people out of this site.

The numbers for this site keeps growing, so I must be doing something right, regardless of what some people say. I also have witnessed personally the benefits of this site, and it's effects on the community, and it's hard for me to walk away from after seeing that.

I will be working in the next few weeks on some things which will hopefully improve this site for you and me.

Thanks again for everyones support, and I apologize for my breakdown.

Keep up the good work. The site is cool.

  8. You Know what? I hate to see that headline. An arsonist is a D bag , but a firefighter arsonist should be put to death. Not ony for the people he/she puts in danger, but he/she knows what the firefighters arriving will strive to do, above and beyond the folks just wanting to get to safety. It also paints such an ugly picture of " thats what they want to see" said by the public, and I do not know about you, but I would be greatful to not ever see a home or business burn again.

And by the way.. looking at the pictures , those firefighters that were doing overhaul and were on the structure where it is leaning, should have never been allowed on the structure or called back down.

  9. So whats the deal with this new charger, is it a Demo or are they going to be getting a bunch of them to patrol the highways. My only thinking, although its not a camaro its the next best thing that is out right now.

Any one with info lets here it

    Porsha,

I had heard a couple (2) years ago they were going to be purchasing these as they do not trust the Fords in rear collision, and that Chevy kinda left the police agencies without much of a choice, for rear wheel drive. I would expect to see more of these if I were you.

  10. Tokyo has some very tight streets (think side streets in Chinatown in NYC and in Boston, some of the streets in the Financial District in NYC) so they need small wheel base trucks.  But don't be fooled about these trucks, though they seem bare minimum, they have ruffly two trucks for every one of ours to carry equipment.  And by what I was told and would like to witness it, the are very aggressive fighting a fire.  I guess in the earthquake capital of the world you have to be.

Also there area a lot of streets that are barley 8 feet wide, let alone just a walking path between buildings.

I liked the stick, or maybe platform? I was trying to count the fly sections and base it on the length of the truck. Looks to be a 75-95'? I wonder?

  11. So I'm a little curious as to why you have a warning light next to a smaller warning light on the front and rear of the body behind the cab.  I've never seen this done before so I'm wondering if this was a request of yours or if Pierce suggested it.

Excuse my misspells in the last post, but I think what you are talking about is what is needed to achieve NFPA optic warning levels.

  12. Having fought fires doing tankers ops in our district with no hydrants, I was more than happy with our 1000 gallong Engine Tankers.  The ETA's gave flexibilbity and as Arrow XT pointed out is depends on dump and recovery time. All of our ETAs had direct tank fills to speed the process.  Our 1500 gallon taker had 3 dumps and a direct tank fill. If we were called for a Mutual Aid Tanker, the 1500 gallon went first followed by one of the 1000 gallon ETAs if needed. Very few departments ran with the 2000-3000 gallon tanks due to the size of the rigs. Remember that tankers are used in areas mainly without nice wide streets like in the southern westchester. The 1000/1500 tanks are much easier to drive and thus aid in a faster recovery time. It may not "seem like a tanker" but it serves a very valuable purpose.  Does anyone question why we have Engine Rescues??  It's more than an engine but less than a Rescue but it too serves a very valuable purpose.

    Hey,

Engine rescues are also hard to define , but in a way can be a great tool, depending on how they are built. I have seen a few that build them with 500-750 gallon tanks with full depth compartments and full height with the coffin compartments on top. Also the rear mount pump affords a lot of tool storage. I think this can be more of a "mix" unit than an engine/tanker. Although you can design a nice engine/tanker.

  13. I think Seagrave's problems with FDNY lie with all the mechanical issues the newer rigs are having, and if they do go with anyone else, I think that will be the reason.

There's already been a Ferrara engine there, and it didn't hold up well, from what I understand.  Although, the members who used it supposedly liked it.

I still can't believe they haven't tried a Pierce Arrow XT yet.  Wasn't that supposed to be the "target audience" of the XT.....a large dept. with a lot of activity?

As for "having their hands full", check out KME and the orders they're currently working on for Los Angeles County and San Diego.  That's a big order!

You, know if E-ONE did not buy Saulsbury the rescues would still, be them.

  14. I think what he's trying to suggest is that Seagrave put all their eggs in one basket for many years with FDNY, and it somehow hurt their sales. There may be some truth to that, but Seagrave is still going strong, FDNY or not. As a matter of fact, they seem to be regaining some popularity here in Rockland after a bit of an absence. Three pumpers have either been delivered or are about to be delivered within the past 2 years.

Seagrave , makes a fire truck. And they do it they way it should be done. I was not slighting them at all. They are one of a very few, who still do what they claim to do . I think there walking away may be there rebirth.

  15. Don't know why you say that. Ferrara Fire Apparatus builds on the average of 350 units a year. The bulk of their sales are in the Midwest and the south. They were rated the fifth largest manufacturer of fire apparatus in the United States and is in the process of adding a 40,000 square foot addition to their plant

Hey , look was just poking fun. FDNY is a tough spec and the trucks are used the way the should be used. But look at the history of who supplied trucks to FDNY and look where they are now. Good for Ferrara if they get it , and 40,000 square addition will not be enough with an order and follow orders. Grreat for Ferrara!

  16. New Paltz NY used them years ago. Although in theory they should work, the use of them I believe is over. Actually New Paltz just got rid of there last Bean with high pressure. I was kid when I saw it used, but the attack with one had to be cordinated with venting, and the third stage or high pressure was not used for supply , just attack, I think, like I said , I was just a kid then.

  17. A lot is lost in a word. Tanker. What it is supposed to do is deliver water. A pumper/tanker has to do both. What gets lost within the word of tanker is not how much water it has on it , but the rate of delivery, and recovery. (To empty the tank , then refill and deliver...) . So what if you have have 3000 gallons of water on the unit, if your dump time is long and your fill time is long it screws up the entire operation. A true "pumper/tanker" would have a dump and fill method that would constitute a great recovery rate along with a full comlpliment of ladders, supply hose, cross lays , hand tools , manpower. Thus it would also have to navigate as an engine, but with the size of such unit(2000-3000 gallon tank) most if built correct would have tandem axles and be longer than your average pumper. Ad a drop tank to match the size or exceed the size of your booster tank and you loose the ability to have what you would find on an engine. A lot are out there , but for the most part they are one or the other. One way to do it correct , and what I believe is the limit, is to do a 1500 gallon booster, low side both sides with a porta tank , rear dump And direct tank fill. You can still fit 6 firefighters in the cab , have a 6 wheel chassis , and be able to fit it in driveways and supply water if called as a tanker.
