The current MA-14 will replace the current Utility 5 and U-5 will be transferred to the SFD Shop for use by the mechanic, he currently uses an old chief's car.
-
On 10/12/06, bid was awarded to Firematic Manufacturing for the replacement of the Current MA-14.
The vehicle will be a multi-purpose unit designed to be an initial attack unit, brush truck, EMS support, and can be used as a source pumper for lakes, streams and ponds that are tight for the "big rigs"
It will not look like the New City unit, it will look more like this unit-

Delivery expected in April

The "original" Somers fire house, which was operated by the Amawalk-Shenorock VFD, before we changed our name to the Somers VFD- is located at the intersections of Shenorock Drive and Hillandale Road in Shenorock, it is now the Shenorock United Owners Association's Clubhouse, which it has been since the Fire Department vacated it in 1937. As legend has it- our 1st rig, a 1921 White combination chemical/pumper is buried in the front lawn!

Water Source set up at Dean's Pond on Dean's Bridge Road, tanker shuttle to Hunter Ln and Deans Bridge Rd.
Total of 3 handlines initially in operation- 2-3" Master Streams and 1- 2 1/2", all 3 broke down to 2" handlines for mobilty when fire was darkened down.
Ladder pipe put into operation to fully extinguish, once NYSEG cut live power lines that were blocking access to the #4 side.
Awesome job again by all those who responded- never lost water once the shuttle was established, great turn-out by all responding departments. Nice easy and SAFE operation. A few dings on E-181 and E-188, but we are a "working" department, dings come with the turf!

That's the Federal Gov't in action- don't send it to the people who know what's, what before they post the announcement! The certs are outlined in the OPM 0081 series guide- but most people wouldn't know that. Thanks RES20CUE! Quick question though- you posted many required qualifications but the job announcement only requires a driver's license and an EMT card.ÂI understand that an applicant must have experience dealing with pumps and hazmats but if the certs you listed are required how come they aren't posted in the announcement?
The actual position title is Firefighter (BLS/Driver-Operator/HazMat Tech)
No.Can experience be substituted for the certs? It doesn't hurt to still put in for it and see what happens.
-
Openings at the VA Hudson Valley FD @ Montrose.
Required Certs-
FFII (or equivalent)
EMT
Driver/Operator- Pumper
HazMat Tech

Somers purchases a new Command Vehicle every 2 years, when the Chief goes out. The new car is given to the new 2nd Asst, and that Chief keeps the car for 6 years.
In relation to replacements cycles and $$- We also purchase a new Ambulance every 2 years, and a new pumper every 2 years, thus the oldest Ambulance is 6 years old at time of disposal and the oldest "front line" pumper is 8 years old, with the Reserve pumper being 10 years old.
By the way- for some of you, Chief is spelled CHIEF!
-
As the IC of this incident, I echo all the above posts, everyone did an excellent, outstanding job- to turn this double fatal (on scene) into the final single fatal accident.
My hat goes off to each and everyone who played a part that day- GREAT JOB!!!!!

New 80B1 delivered and placed in service.

Mahopac is a fire protection district located in the Town of Carmel, not a Fire District as stated. They are contracted with the Town of Carmel for protection, so I don't think they are technically publically funded, depending upon how you look at other contractors to the Town.
I don't know whay they call themselves "commissioners", but they are NOT publically elected.
They are elected by the Department only, more along the lines of directors.
I also think it will be very hard to save the current firehouse, seeing how the new firehouse is being built right behind the current one. It will kind of restrict the apparatus from responding on calls!
-
The New 80B1 will be delivered this week. Somers will have 3 RED PL custom Ambulances.
The current 80B1, which originally was Ambulance 36 when purchased in 2001, will be converted into a SCUBA RESCUE vehicle and designation will be Rescue 38. It will replace the current Utility 34, disposition of the current U-34 is not known at this time.

The BCFD has been using Jeeps for quite a while as Battalion Chief's vehicles. They were previously using Jeep Cherokee's.

heres good point wil they spell "verterans" right its misspelled ont the othe pieces of apparatus that they have.just a note of observation---- a lot of men gave a lot time energy and blood for us.
Hey Capt-
Maybe some spell check is needed on your computer too!!
Anyway, the seals for these pumpers were done locally and sent to them, they are spelled correctly! I guess E-One doesn't know how to spell VETERAN. The funnier part is that it took 8 years for someone to realize that it was spelled wrong!
Anyhow, It will get fixed. As a veteran of 2 wars, I know the sacrifices that are made!

OSSINING FD- Again, we are hearing rumors that you are coming- no reply has been received that you are coming!

I would like to thank all the members from the Somers, Katonah, Golden's Bridge, Croton Falls, Yorktown and Bedford Hills VFD's who assisted in the pack-up on Thursday night, and the Demo today.
I have been dealing with this for over 6 weeks now, but due to Federal Law restrictions regarding "Game Shows", it had to be kept a secrect until Wednesday morning when the show arrived.
By no means was there an intent to slight any FD or EMS agancy in regards to the last 2 days activities, however they were set up many days prior to the arrival of the show on Wednesday. The 6 FD's that worked extremely hard both last night and today, were the same 6 FD's that were represented in carrying "Jimmy-boy's" casket.
At this point, these were the only organized FD events
Anyone can volunteer at this point, just go to the intersection of Lake Way and Entrance Way, East- alongside the Lake Purdy's clubhouse, and sign-up. They will put you to work!
Thank you again.

I would use the steel to make the biggest flag pole allowed by Navy rules on the ship!By an instruction dated 31 May 2002 (SECNAV Instruction 10520.6), the Secretary of the Navy directed the use of the rattlesnake jack in place of the union jack for the duration of the Global War on Terrorism.
Actually the Navy never stopped using this Jack, until 5/31/02, the oldest active commissioned ship in the US Navy was directed to fly the Navy Jack. Pass by my house, I have one flying on my flag pole and it's been there since I returned from activation, and I too will fly it until the GWOT is over!

Actually, I believe it is a '59 Maxim. The Fire District still owns it, but it is stored by a member and used by the Engine Company's Muster Team.
