  1. put to use as a taxi for a year or two then I would consider trying it out for emergency services. If it can hold up as a cab then it should be able to handle what we would do to it. And what does looks have to do with speed. My Dodge RAM can haul when I want it too and my brick on wheels, I mean Jeep Wrangler could top out at the 85 to 90 range.

  2. BTW, if this were true, all police cars would be red/blue front/rear because that's the national standard - but NY doesn't recognize it so it is NOT the law.

What a great thing it would be for there to be a national standard for vehicle lights and warning lights since so many people are relocating or driving on vacation now and have no clue what color means what if not in there home state. Then again NY's don't seem to know what red lights and sirens mean in NY.

  3. I do not know the exact truth however I was told that there is a case standard in NY from a plow company on LI that was cited for red to the rear since we have all seen all the plow trucks running around with strobes in the brake light housings. So is it legal probably not however a judge in NY said that its OK for this company to have red flashing lights to the rear so he opened a flood gate.

I will try to find out more info when I go back to work from Vacation.

  4. feel free to call me dumb but what the hell is LOSAP. Obviously the last FD I was with in NY was not a part of it and I care more about learning how to do my job properly instead of standing around saying "whats in it for me?"

I have been involved in the Fire service in one way or another since I was 16. Would I do it with out lights definitely its not about lights its about doing the right thing.

Here's a twist to your question. How many with out lights would run out and buy lights if Red lights and siren were legal for Volunteers for their POV?

I personally would not I would simply go with out.

  5. Going to a police academy, fire training school or paramedic training is not the same a college no matter how you slice it. You tell me how that benefits you in any world other than your professional career. A college education gives you more than just a basic skill set, it teaches you how to approach the world and various challenges from new and different perspective.

Obviously you have never been to an academy. They push you to if not slightly over the breaking point and teach you how to save some one else or your own life when there is no one else there but you. Putting your life on the line and not knowing if when you step out the door to work each time and not knowing if you will survive your shift definitely is more then a "skill set".

And from what I have seen from College degrees which most Law enforcement and now more and more FD's are requiring, I am not impressed. But what would I know I only have the experience of BOTH.

And you get collage credits for Academies so Colleges most not think they are that different.

  6. While I do agree that people need to engage brain then mouth or keyboard in this case. The public can all to easily find out how much every municipal employee makes and what occurred on your shift with out us posting stupid things here.

I had some one walk up to me and tell me how much I made the last 2 years not long ago and it was a wake up call to not complain about my job when so many are out of work.

Remember the public does not understand the concept of minimum staffing and what Fire Fighters, EMS, and Law enforcement really do.

also If you promote having the union take action for thing done when not at work I would suggest you take a hard look in the mirror because once you let them enforce what you do off shift you are in a world of trouble. My union can stay at work where all my thoughts about work stay.

  7. Guess again we are getting the plates. <_< Personal I think they are UGLY and will look like crap agains the colors of my vehicles.

    From Poughkeepsie Journal

"ALBANY — While state leaders say they will work to repeal a new fee on license-plate purchases, there are no immediate plans to drop the production of new plates scheduled to be issued in April, a spokesman for Gov. David Paterson said Monday."

  8. The Weber Grill (didn't go, but from what I have heard, everything is cooked on the original style domed Weber charcoal grill)

I wouldn't waist your time or money. I went to THAT restaurant when I was in Downers Grove last year and for food was OK but the bill for 4 adults and 2 kids was $180. and there was no alcahol or desert ordered.

Where is the O'Hare building in Downers? I haven't been back to visit my Aunt since they moved. She lives in a Sears Home that is featured on the Downers Grove walking tour 2 blocks from the train station.

I also love the fact that CFD used Q2E's on there ambulances and they really move the traffic better then the older buses that don't have them.

  9. I hope he gets off. This guy shoots better under the influence then most guys I know sober!

Let me get this right. You hope that some one that carries a deadly weapon under the influance of alcahol gets off??????

So if he had been drunk and behind the wheel of a car had hit and almost killed your wife or child would you still state that you hope he gets off.

Sorry but I hope they throw the book at him. Carrying a firearm and drinking do not mix at all if you are going to go drinking leave the weapon at home.

  10. Why do you expect the commercial real estate market to go into the toilet?? I am not saying your wrong, i'm asking why you say that.

How many vacant stores are there at the current time? How do you think the landlords pay taxes. Not only do most stores pay rent at shopping centers they also pay a percentage of income. Poughkeepsie Galleria gets 3% income on top of the rent and this doubles to 6% for November, December and January. Its not a guess that the Commercial market is in the toilet its a fact. The residential market hasn't made a complete rebound yet and until people go out and spend at stores freely again then the commercial market will continue a downward slide.
