  1. They smacked into a tractor trailer on Queens Boulevard, about a half a mile from the firehouse. Smashed up the cab pretty bad, too. I have to say, I don't remember the last time I actually saw that rig out in the street. They were driving the 96 HME/Saulsbury spare(former R-4) not too long ago, and they were driving the Spirit of Oklahoma as early as two weeks ago when I buffed an all hands over in Jamaica. PS, the Spirit of Oklahoma was used as Rescue 6 during the summer/fall of 04, and there is another newer style Mack out there as a spare as well.

Hey JBE. They're still running the Spirit of Oklahoma. The '96 rig had major suspension problems, it was ready to fall apart!

Speaking of Rescue 4, they also ran the 1939 Ward LaFrance and had an accident with that one in the 50's; crashed into 136's old rig and the Ward apparently ohmy.gif burst into flames.

We'll see if Rescue 1's old rig goes to R-4. If it were up to me, R-1's would be the spare and R-4 would get the Spirit of Oklahoma. laugh.gifbiggrin.gif

  2. Speaking of Connecticut, that's all Governor Rell and the Governor Rowland who did all that. Rowland vetoed bills that woulda rehabbed the system. I've noticed that the New Haven Line is ridiculously overcrowded (going back and forth). I didn't realize the fleet problems were so bad. Wow. The wheel shops must be pretty busy. There are also yards in North White Plains and Southeast, right???

  3. Nice photos Seth! I think Tower Ladder 3 is indeed a beauty. I ain't seen her in person, but, from what I heard and (seen) she is great.

Speaking of the Pipes and Drums, they run a beautiful vintage Maxim Pumper. If you'd like, I"ll ship you the photos (and her twin rig, owned by the Fire Chief in Charlton as an antique), they are one of only a few Maxims with catwalks. Let me know if you're interested. (I think that rig used to be the Dive Unit)

When are you comin' to Hartford? If you're doin' it over the holiday, stop by and say ALOHA!

  4. So far as I know, Hastings is still around, so is Port Chester.

Rockland (slightly off topic) also runs quite a number of tillers, two in Nyack (See also: http://www.rocklandfires.com/smfrc2/index....opic,255.0.html)

10-98 (Empire H&L, Nyack) has run Seagrave TDAs since the 30's, and quints since the 50's.

10-99 (Chelsea H&L, Nyack) ran a pair of ALFs dating back to 1955 before their current 1999 Pierce Quantum TDA. Beautiful rigs, no? wink.gif

Suffern H&L runs 19-99, which is a 1973 Seagrave TDA (but looks like a Sutphen from its headlights). Prior to that they ran a 1937 Seagrave 75' TDA.

And then there's Rescue H&L, Haverstraw, with 4-99, a beautiful 1969 Pirsch 100'. They also still have their 1937 75' Pirsch as an antique!

    Hope this helps!

  6. I have to admit to being a former member over there and to taking part in some of the shenanigans (Oh well. As they say at 19 Truck, nobody's perfect.) But, I left that behind and I tried to make some amends. I didn't realize that things got worse in the two years since I left. Probably a good thing.

I did make some friends and I did get a few nice rigs out of that board, though.

    C'est la vie.

I'm glad that Bravo has welcomed me with open arms.

  7. Pardon my skepticism and playing Devil's Advocate, but, honestly, WHO CARES? I remember that O.J. Simpson's trial ate up a lot of time of attention. But so what?

Sorry. I just think the whole thing gets/got too much attention.

And I concur, Joe, why couldn't Frank have gotten him with a Bazooka after he cheated with Jane?

  8. I have a question. Why do some departments in Westchester still use local designations (e.g. Mount Vernon and White Plains, and to some extent, New Rochelle)?

I take it that some designations also aren't "official" in the County, like "Telesquirt" or "Patrol". Just curious about how that whole system works. Seems a little confusing.

One more question- Who decides which rigs get which designation? The County Fire Commissioner?

Or do Departments "bid" for numbers?

  9. Man, thems is a BIG F$&*#$*(! Tanker! By me, the vollies tend to run 3000-4000 gallon tankers. Then again, there are some hydrants in my neck of the woods. I'm sure though that if there are NO hydrants you need tens of thousands gallons of water. My only thought is, why one big tanker versus two or three 3000 gallon tankers? Could be dollars and cents. What I always wonder about is where the pump can fit on the Trailer!!!

    Nice one though!

  10. Seth-

You have a great site here! I've learned a #&(@load of stuff about Westchester Firefighting, which I never knew previously. I'm glad I've also finally been able to share my photos with the site. You have to take care of yourself, so, please do! I know I speak for myself that I'd like a happy, unstressed Seth running the site (it can't be easy running the whole site and working 24? on for Hartsdale! It certainly ain't easy balancing a full academic courseload and writing a Firehouse history. That I know.)

Keep Bravo!!! Your Blog entries add to the richness!

And thanks for everything you do.

And thanks for putting up a wacko buff (like me)'s photos!

    -Joe DA BUFF

P.S. Two things- I'd like to visit you up in Hartsdale at some point this holiday season, if you're around. (I can't make the Bravo Holiday Party).

Two-Am I really verified? B/c if not, I'll certainly ship my info to get verified.

    P.P.S. I also do for hire muscle-work. wink.gifwink.gifcool.gif

  12. OK guys, here are a few photos of the new Seagrave [low profile FDNY style]. Committee is fighting wether to call is 2-1500 [which it is replacing] or 2-2000. Notice the GOLD Seagrave logo which all the 125th Anniversary Seagrave are being outfitted with. Even the wording on the mudflaps is GOLD. Thought that was pretty cool. Anyway, is will be at the dealer for tools to be mounted then it will be lettered and striped. Will keep everyone updated !

Them is a nice Seagrave!!!! With the roll up compartments, are you going to be carrying a Jaws on there? I always ask. wink.gif Good luck putting her in service, I hope she serves Central Engine Co. 6 for many years to come! See her at the Fire or more importantly, at the Nyack-on-Hudson Parade!

And on a personal note, send my best to Ken Wanamaker.
