    Thats funny.  Come down to NYC sometime.  These people are down right creative in the BS runs they send us on.  Lets see we've got the pull boxes, "someone's been shot", "They're beating up a cop!!", people call to screw with their ex's, people call when someone isn't home because they know EMS has to call us to force the door, kids call because they like seeing us race by, the list of bullsh!t goes on and on.

    I really didnt think of it that way. I was thinking more of people sending pictures on the cell phone because i would think that that is 100 % traceable. You know what I mean/? I know the pullboxes and bs that goes on. I was just thinking about the topic that we are talking about.

    This is  a stupid idea. Every idiot out there with a camera phone is going to send @!#$ in and waste everyone's time.

    People are not gunna send things in falsely or screw around. Im sure you know it is against the law to falsely alert the emergency system. I dont know if you were saying this or that at an accident or crim scene everyone will try to be the hero and take all sorts of pictures. In the end im sure it well help whichever organization is responding or investigating the incident. If the pictures are not helpful then they are not, but if they are helpful then that makes that call a lot easier.

    NFPA 101 allows for schools to defer the required number of exit drills in inclement weather. If you need one per month you can conduct two a month in warmer months to prevent requiring the drill during poor conditions. Just like anything else you have to look at the greater good, the safety of the kids must come first. How cold was it? I know I'd be pissed if my kids were made to stay outside for a drill last week when the temp here never got above 10 F without the wind. Sure in a true emergency you have to suck it up, but how many of you huys cancel or modify your drill schedules for snow, rain or extereme hot or cold weather?

    *** I agree, the thing is that this was not a drill. A child pulled the fire alarm and the parents are complaining. I cannot find one excuse they could use....... Yes drills in the freezing temps is not needed, but the alarm was pulled and the faculty did not know why...... What do these ppl expect....

    01/30/07) NEW ROCHELLE - Procedure at a New Rochelle elementary school is being called into question after kids were forced out into the freezing cold without coats during a fire alarm.

    A student at George Davis Elementary School reportedly pulled the fire alarm on Friday, one of the coldest days of the year. The school was evacuated and the children had no time to gets their coats. Parents say they were upset since the wind chill factor made it feel like it was below zero degrees that day. Some parents say it is impractical to have kids run out without their coats in the winter.

    The school superintendent says proper procedures were followed. There is no word on whether they plan to implement provisions to prevent a future similar scenario.

    **** I saw this on news 12 today and thought it was rediculous. How is the school supposed to know the difference -- and then wait while a fire could possibly be burning in a school. I understand that drills should not be done during this weather (like was done at Westchester Community College today) but this wasnt a drill in New Rochelle ------ Any thoughts/.????

    As I had posted before -- my department has one chief respond on M/A calls. The towns around us are seperated between the chiefs and whichever dept calls us - then we know which chief will be going. Prior arrangements are made when one chief will be out of town or something of the sort. It works great for us.

    ex: If M/A depts 1,2,3 call us then cheif xxx1 responds if 4,5,6 call us then xxx2 responds.....and so on ......

    I know in my department only one chief responds to mutual aid calls, and the way they figure out which one is by zones. Each chief is designated to certain mutual aid dept's. So whenever a dept calls us we know which chief will be responding. If that chief is out of town or unavailable to respond another chief will obviously take it in. In a situation like that - it is all about communication -- Hope this makes sense.........

    These guys are so short staffed over there. and its really starting to show. From a statement from the pentagon - the navy is actually training a few groups to go releive and help the army and marines - looks like they need to send lots more and get this over with quicker, but then again - thats a decision for the people who have the intelligence - not me.

    There is something that I was thinking about last night when monitoring the radio and I was wondering if anyone here and any suggestions on improving the radio traffic.

    Last night specifically, there was a dept that was out on a working fire, and from the initial dispatch to the chief on scene there were other departments stepping all over this department with repeating dispatch over and over again. It made communications very difficult for units on scene and for county.

    The two departments are ones that are dispatched by agencies other than "60 Control" -

    Do you guys have any suggestions that you think would possibly eliminate this --- and I am not sure about the new radio systems being installed -- maybe those will help this issue.

    Just to say this in advance --- I am not bashing anyone --- The fire was extinguished and everyone got home --- Just a topic for discussion.

    Ossining got hit pretty hard --- Many homeowners stated that when the storm was the heaviest -- it sounded like an airplane was right over their home and the freight train sound was also reported by numerous homeowners including ones who had trees uprooted in their yards -- Although I dont think it was a tornado - there was definitley rediculously strong winds.
