  1. great pics mike. i went there 3 years ago and it was such an awesome place to go to.

i did take pics as well, but my digital camera f'd up an i had to get a throw away. i especially loved that wooden ladder truck. also did you see the first "fire truck" in NYS? it's more of a wooden box with wheels, but still the first.

    Vacguy, that's a Negative. If I saw it, I didn't notice it.

Thanks guys! I really tried my best for the photos!

On a side note, MANY more photos to put up here.

  2. Here's some suggestions for the topics:

RIT AKA FAST: What we need to cover our back

Forcible Entry: Have a photo of a bad place to force entry and discuss how to gain entry

MCI: What everybody needs to know about an MCI - have somebody from EMS field lead this topic

    These any good?

  3. That is interesting. Speaking from my vast inexperience, would it be possible to mitigate the hazard of the falling door by getting creative and operating from the platform of a tower ladder? As to how to get through the damn thing... time to call in the big guns? Back gouging / burning tube / oxygen lance type of setup?

Or, to get really crazy, break the round portholes on the window shutters, loop a chain through, attach to winch, and stand well clear... might just pull the whole thing out of the wall.

...but you might bring the whole building down with it, seeing as it is abandoned!

  4. When I was little, there was a playground I went to that was made of WOOD and PEBBLES were on the ground. A 'stairway' that went up to a second level had steps made of TIRES. THAT WAS IT. You fall through that hole, you fell about 5 feet onto pebbles. That was removed about 7 years ago. The whole place was destroyed about 4 or 5 years ago for a PLASTIC playground. Damn lawsuits. That was a fun playground.

  6. Well, you could solve this problem with a 'sport' mode, or 'subject in motion' if you have a regular digital. However, I don't know how to solve this problem on Digital SLR cameras. I'm going to defer to photounit, Seth, or anyone else who has an SLR camera.

  7. Well, was in NY this past week, and I made a stop at FASNY's Impressive Fire Musuem. Here's some shots from the musuem. Due to apparatus placement, the shots often have a corner or so cut off, due to difficulties fitting the whole thing in.

First off: An old Ward LaFrance 'utility' from Somers.

    Second, a 1972 Ford C/Maxim Pumper

Third, a 1946 American LaFrance JOX

I'll put up more as time progresses.

  8. Sorry to hijack the thread, but.....(aw who am I kidding, this is what would've eventually happened anyway  )

What EXACTLY does OSHA's 2 in/2 out rule state? 2 Firefighters inside and 2 firefighters stand-by outside? Does that same rule multiply by however many FFs are inside?

Jonesy, HFD, take a word from Massachusetts. Most Volunteer fire departments around here have a full time Chief, hired by the town's selectmen. As far as I know, there's NO elections up here. I'll have to check though.
