  1. let me be up front when I make mistake I am not afraid to admit it and own up to it. After a very pleasent conversation with Chief Nakin of the Irvinigton Fire Department I now understand fully the frustration that he and the department is going through. They and East West had preformance bonds included inthe specs for the apparatus. FIRE DEPARTMENT DID NOTHING WRONG. Knowing JP for a while now, I know that he and his committee did the right thing. Irvington is one of the Department in this county that are way ahead of the curve. All of their member should be proud to belong to that Department.

No ill will towards the Fire Dept but if Loweys office can find $322.000.00 It would be put to better use in supplying

UHF portables for a county wide grant. The village screwed up and they should take the hit.

  3. Many years ago, probably early 80's I guess, when my parents first got cable tv in Mount Vernon, there was a show on the old WNYC tv channel about the FDNY. It was a half hour show on about once a week hosted by a fire chief that involved training videos and interviews. I think it was called "ON the Job"?? My brother and I loved watching this show when we were kids because it usually had some good videos from fires around the city.

Does anyone else remember this show? Does FDNY still produce any programs like this?

    ON THE JOB

  4. It is with heavy heart, that I announce the passing of one of the best instructors I have had the honor of working with. Our awesome EMS Instructor, Ray Thompson, passed away on the morning of 12/24/2007. Ray was a great Instructor and all around great guy. He will be sorely missed. As soon as I foin out about funeral and wake arrandements, I will post them.

A dedicated professional and family man, a leading inspiration for EMS in Westchester.

  5. We are talking 1939 here. maybe the term Quint was not used yet. it is the first stab at it from Aherns fox . just a thought!

    `

The 1939 BJQ- Note (Q) for Quint Probably at that time there was no Quad designation ? The model that Fairview has

on display was done by LT. Robert Gooding FFD. this was a hand built balsa wood model with more detail than the one

on ebay Will take pics and post same.

  6. From an apparatus view point that Mack Rescue served the department and the city well, once again the city getting the most for its tax dollar. From the mid 60's to 1977 that rig responded to all fires and emergencies within Mount Vernon and sometimes neighboring communities, it was a very busy time for the fire department in Mount Vernon. I am proud to say I worked that company as a firefighter, driver, and fire oficer for more than 13 years with some of the best firefighters Mount Vernon ever had. One big happy family that couldn't wait to go to work, and work it did!

It was a great time in the history of the Mount Vernion Fire Department.

Hey HAC what were the horses names that pulled your engine??
