  1. If you look at Port Chester all the portables are on VHF with the Chiefs and paid guys having the repeater channel so they can transmit to 60 control. How hard is it to have them switch to channel 2 while on the fire ground? The IC can still monitor 60 control and when the IC needs to transmit he just has to switch to channel 1. Is that asking too much?

In reply to above and only to above, yes,Port Chester uses Channel 2(non-repeater) channel when on the fireground.Hence, people do not hear us on thier scanner... This has been the case for some time now...

And no,your not asking too much, but who are you to ask??

    Last night,with the weather,we went totallyoff 46.26 to a secondary channel,for dispatch...

As did many other depts............... Enough said....................

  2. Yes,and depending on your status in the Dept. Ex.1st line supervisor or above, more has to be taken..

If you are a first responder,Pd,FD,Ems,Dpw, Health Dept.Etc. you must take ICS 100,200 & NIMS 700.

    Supervisors 100,200 and most likley 300 (ICS) - NIMS 700 & 800NRP

You can take the on-line courses at FEMA.gov, go to training & education link.

    Not that hard to complete.

Of course the higher up the line you are the more you must take,in the classroom setting.

This is all so if there is an incident anywhere in the US,we as first responders are all talking the same thing.

Also,if your municipality hasn't adopted this whole NIMS concept, and all your first responders trained to the appropriate level, you will not be eligible for grant money.

This doesn't mean if the FD is trained & PD not,you won't get the $$$ ,Only the dept that is trained will get the grant money, from what I been told @ all these NIMS seminars..

The best part is everyone has to comply be the end of Sept 2006.....

  3. The Village of Port Chester FD is sponsoring a FASNY Seminar called "INTERSECTION SAFETY",on Tuesday 4/25/06.

This seminar is one of a group that is put on by FASNY & VFIS.

Based on previous seminars, this should be very wothwhile.

This 3 hr course will improve the skills of drivers of all types of emergency vehicles.

The seminar will be held from 18:30hrs-21:30hrs @ South-End firestation

51-53 Grace Church st Port Chester,NY

Information canned be found at www.FASNY.com

  4. Well, this is how the judicial system works in this country...

Set low bail, let them back out,and the process starts all over again...

Time in time, the offender gets more violent as time goes on,as he commits more crimes... As in the Yonkers case,Cops get hurt,Not good...

Perp should not have been out,If I remember correctly, someone called him a "hero", at the Mt.Vernon Fire..

Last name I would call this guy,his actions could have caused major problems for both the residents & Firefighters...

Most offenders are recidivist, and continue to go back to what they are good at!!

    Committing Crimes....

A perfect case,Guy gets locked up for DWI,punches a Cop, hurts 2 cops, gets out on low bail, breaks into a house ,confronts homeowner, stabs homeowner in neck.

    Whats wrong with this picture???

As someone who has 20+ years in law enforcement I cannot begin to vent my frustrations on our judicial system.

    Needed to vent some.................

  5. Unfortunately, this is not the first case of this happening in West Chester...

In the past, ambulances,Fire vehicles,& PD vehicles have been taken in my town.

ALL recovered right a way..But you never know. Could every city/town handle an incident where a piece of front-line apparatus is lost???At the scene??

This should be a reminder to everyone to watch your backs, never know what "Nut"

    is around....

Scene security is of upmost importance at "EVERY" scene.

In this day ,scene security is a must...ALL the time, everone must be on the look-out..

The PD's role is traffic, crowd control, scene safety, documentation of any entry into an unoccupied premise and any other assistance that they can render.

It must be remembered, that at anytime or place, a driver whether drunk or otherwise may drive right into the scene..This has happened in many places, striking members, apparatus or running over hoselines, which can severly hamper your operation, and endanger us even more....

    WATCH YOU BACK!! & EACHOTHER'S ALWAYS !!!

Every Dept.Must have a good working relationship with the PD,and establish a SOP to address everyones concerns..If this is not in place, have your Chief's set it up...If everyone knows whats up,than the job will get taken care much smoothly..Get everyone on the same page,it helps...

We all know that the first few moments at any scene can be hectic,so don't expect everything to go smoothly, but if the PD knows what is needed it usually gets done...

Thankfully, this "Firetruck" stealing is not something that happens everyday, but this is a good reminder of how vulnerable we are...

    BE SAFE>..............

  6. It was Ecclisse Rest. in Washington Park plaza, 275S.Ridge st Rye Brook.

Fire in kitchen area, sprinklers activated along with ansul system, knocking it down.

Large amount of smoke upon arrival,Restaurant suffered some smoke & water damage, but as we all know, when the ansul system kicks in ,it leaves a mess..

Interesting,it was an automatic alarm that activated...

2nd restaurant fire that was an activated alarm in past couple of years.....

Never take those AFA's for granted......

Restaurant will be back open in a short period of time.............

  7. Fire started in garbage can in garage.Homeowner thought firealarm activated, but

fire was located next to phone jack & burned phone wires off,as well as electrical

    wires.

Heavy fire load in garage, rugs, couches and firewood, gastank went on the lexus in garage fueling the fire.....

Pilot on final to WestChester Airport reported fire,as well as numerous neighbors,

    after...

By that time, fire had a good jump, out of garage up & out.......

  8. You can not be the IC if your on the crash truck, out of radio contact.

Upon arrival airport personnel briefed 2391 & 2 of the incident and all apparatus were staged as the Pre-plan states. We were in constant radio contact with airport crash truck, prior to airplane landing.

Plan went very smoothly last night.

    the plan calls for :

1-Chief as IC with airport supervisor,

    2-2nd chief gate control

    3-3rdChief EMS triage

Structure related,non-aircraft incidents, or-Off airport incidents the jurisdiction that the incident is in, is in charge .

FYI-landing gear indicator light on,plane did fly- by gear was down ,unable to verify if locked, therefore, the response.

  9. Well,

I usually keep my comments to myself concerning the "Monday Morning Quarterbacks",but however, this must be addressed.

First off,I am not here to justify or debate this issue.

Mutual aid as I see it,is to rely on neighboring Dept.s for aid in an Emergency.

Abuse of the mutual aid system,is in my opinion,to rely on a constant basis, for assistance, for any incident above the norm..

    THIS WAS NOT THE CASE!!!!!

Is it really an issue who covers Port Chester / Rye Brook?

To use all local Departments, than you would be depleting your Mutual aid/resources.

That was not mutual aid..That was making sure that the residents of the Villages of Port Chester & Rye Brook were provided the same amount of coverage that is ALWAYS provided.

In case you don't know, the dinner takes place @ Arrowwood hotel in Rye Brook, which is in the Northest most part of the Villages.By providing coverage at the southend station those residents still were provided the same level of coverage as always.

Without such coverage,it would by a total lack of responsiblity on the Chief's part to the residents of the southern- end of the Village.

Once again,Thanks to the Stand By companies.....

    Hopefully,this "Debate" is over....

  10. On behalf of the PORT CHESTER FIRE DEPT. I wish to express our condolences...

Although, most of us never met Jimmy Boy,I can truely say he became part of our family.Frankly,he became an inspiration,to live everyday to it's fullest..

May god bless you and your family through this difficult time, and may Jimmyboy REST IN PEACE.

  11. Just to clarify,

Port Chester was not "high & Dry"..If you are familiar with PC,the southend area

known as edgeland, had low pressure..The hydrants worked, but like I posted earlier, low pressure..The tankers were for a secondary level of protection,"Just in case".

If a situation warranted,we could have laid a line from the area north,of the affected area, into the south end, to obtain a large volume of water,if needed.

Or,use a hydrant on the Rye line,(this area is close to Rye line),if needed.

The plan was,if anything occurred,to show up on the scene, with an ample supply of water for an intial attack,as the additional PCFD,companies stretch a

supply line....The reason for all companies to stand-by...

If 1 engine was hooked up to a hydrant, there was an ample supply, the problem was if we needed more....

Once again,I wish to Thank all the Departments who responded with thier tankers...

    THANK-YOU FOR YOUR COOPERATION....,2392...........

  12. Tankers that responded to Port Chester:

    Bedford Hills,Goldens Bridge,Pound Ridge,Round Hill,and South Salem...

We Took 2 at a time, then rotated them out......Stand-By was going to be a long process..

At about 01:00hrs-water turned on and South Salem went back to quarters..

We had water, but pressure was a problem....

    Once again,THANK-YOU!!!

    2392........

  13. The Restaurant at WestChester/ US 1 was Coneyz, not as good as Hubbas.

A Little history,Texas was sold to "Pat" back in the 90's,he also owns a place in Stamford,Ct (I believe in the Cove area).

Pat has since sold again, hence the name Hubbas, minus the "PAT".

Nothing beat Millie, back in the Texas, with cigarette hanging out of mouth, cooking your food. That's what it was all about!

Chili was much better back in the Texas days.

And we still get prisoner meals at Hubbas........................

  14. Update on rabbit,

one of our PO brought him home as a pet.

Wife didn't go for it so he let it go.........

Rabbit ended up in neighbor's yard ,also a PO...

Couldn't stay there so they caught it and were going to find a home for it....

Rabbit in sector car "On Patrol" when passerby says she can help and transports it to S.Salem...

Boy did this rabbit get around !!!!!

He really did weigh 25lbs,We have pics to prove it..........
