NEW YORK STATE OFFICE of FIRE PREVENTION and CONTROL

    PRESENTS

    CHEMICAL SUICIDE

The Office of Fire Prevention and Control has recently assisted local authorities in two communities with suicides involving chemicals. The process involves mixing common household chemicals to create hydrogen sulfide in a small space. Instructions to do this are readily available on the internet and most encourage anyone planning to use this method to provide appropriate warnings to people who might encounter or respond to their situation about the presence of the deadly gas. Our concern is that anyone who enters the space without proper protections may quickly become a victim themselves. Both recent incidents in New York involved suicides inside a vehicle. One vehicle had very clear and obvious warning signs taped to the window, the other had signs that were less noticeable laid on the dashboard. In both instances responders were able to recognize the situation and take appropriate protective actions.

    Monday May 10th – 1800 hrs – Wassaic

    REGISTRATION IS A MUST!

  9. I am a huge fan of Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg. They did a great job with Part 1 last night. If this series is anything like Band of Brothers, its a home run in my book. I just ordered HBO for this.

  10. Ok I'm sure this has been talked about before and I apologize if it stirs peoples emotions but I'm looking to work upstate I'm currently a NYC Paramedic so I was taking interest in companies in westchester and hudson valley.

The two westchester companies I know of are which I also filled out applications are EMPRESS (which from what they said have been on a hiring freeze since october) and Westchester EMS

In Hudson Valley I put applications in Mobile Life Support, Northern Dutchess Paramedics, Hudson Valley Paramedics/Regional EMS and Rockland County Paramedics

So I know there a lot of people here with several years if not more of experience in some of these companies so if anyone has any insight, opinions, stories, etc whether bad or good do share. Take into consideration I'm looking to do mostly 911 work I don't mind some transport.

PS negative opinions are fine as long as they have substance not just oh that company sucks instead of I don't like them because of x y and z

I can only speak of the companies I have worked for. MLSS is one of the best EMS companies in the Hudson Valley...they offer alot of room for movement and great people to work with. They are a local company based in the Hudson Valley. Transcare is also a good company to work for but they are the largest company on the East Coast so you will feel more like a number. NDP EMS is a great company to work for. Our stations are located in Rhinebeck, Hyde Park and Millerton in Dutchess County. If you would like you should contact our HR...check out our web site...ndpems.com. Hope this helps you out. Good luck in coming up to the Hudson Valley.

Again this is my opinion from when I worked for these companies!

  11. Hopefully that doesn't happen. The health quest benefits are pretty solid.

Hey Alamo guys & gals, one of your EMT's stated that Health Quest is letting go a majority of the full timers and replacing them with Part Time / Per Diem staff just so they wouldn't have to pay benefits. Any truth to this? Again just repeating what I heard from a full time EMT at Alamo?

    I hope its not true!

  12. I wouldn't of wasted my time with HV, but in terms of Alamo, they're hiring tons of people for their dutchess expansion, so if you haven't applied yet, that looks promising. And NDP is a sinking ship at this point, so I wouldn't bother with them.

NDP sinking ship....NDP IS NOT LAYING ANYONE OFF! So before making rumors why don't you ask. Just like the majority of commercial agencies we are accepting applications but not hiring anyone new.

I guess my question is, as a CFR how many commercial agencies have you worked for?
