  1. Don, quick question for you. What do you mean by Bank: North, and two Bank:South's?

    Ok - Here's what I did

    North:

    Frequencies: 470.3250, 470.3500, 470.3750, 470.5250, 470.5750

    Base - 470.0

    Spacing - 12.5

    Offset - 380

    South:

    Frequencies: 470.0750, 470.1000, 476.0750, 476.1125, 476.2125, 476.2375

    Base - 469.525

    Spacing - 12.5

    Offset - 380

    South

    Frequencies: 470.0750, 470.1000, 476.0750, 476.1125, 476.2125, 476.2375

    Base - 475.750

    Spacing - 12.5

    Offset - 500

There is only one entry for Base / Offset per bank, (which is annoying with this scanner) So I had to have two separate banks for both South Zones because of the two different base frequencies and offset. Then I added the TalkGroups for Fire in each of the banks (North, South1, South2). Was that the right way to do it? I've heard transmissions over Fire11, and a quick blip on Fire14 so far, nothing else.

  2. Feel free to ask away, we'll get it working.

Ok - I think that fixed it. I don't hear the static when I'm scanning, only when I stop on that frequency in the bank.

    Here's what I did:

    Bank: North

    Bank: South

    Bank: South

With all the information you gave me, then I added the set of talkgroups to each bank. I hope that's right. I don't hear any transmissions, but I don't hear the static either - that's a plus right? LOL

[edit] Just heard a transmission from Pleasantville on Fire11 so I guess I did it right. Thanks again.

  3. It looks like you have several issues.

To review this thread these are this is the information you need:

    North Zone - 470.3250, 470.3500, 470.3750, 470.5250, 470.5750

    Base - 470.0

    Spacing - 12.5

    Offset - 380

    South Zone - 470.0750, 470.1000, 476.0750, 476.1125, 476.2125, 476.2375

    Base 1 - 469.525

    Spacing 1 - 12.5

    Offset 1 - 380

    Base 2 - 475.750

    Spacing 2 - 12.5

    Offset 2 - 500

The North and South Zones need to be programmed into separate banks. All of the above information needs to be entered in the appropriate bank.

Once you have this entered it should work. I noticed from your screenshot you have only the North and South Control Channels entered in the same bank. As mentioned all info for both banks need to be separated in to different banks.

The static you are hearing on 470.5750 and 476.2375 is the Control Channel datastream which you will not hear once everything is operating correctly.

    Thank You

I'll try that right now and post back and see if I can get it working without being a pain and posting every time I have an issue.

    Thanks Again

  4. I dont know to much about trunking, but does that "type: conv" mean conventional?

Yeah, I changed that right after I posted this thread. That was a mistake - it's set to MOT now.

    Here's what I have now:

    screen1.gif

I'm getting nothing but static from the North Zone's control frequency. I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong since I've never really messed around with any radioshack products, and quite frankly the software for programming it is confusing.

  5. I'm not familiar with the programming nuances of your model, but I have found this site below an extremely valuable resource:

    http://marksscanners.com/index.html

Here is the shortcut to "an easier to read manual" for your scanner:

    http://marksscanners.com/95/95.html

Take your time to become familiar with your model, carefully follow the programming steps, and you should be able to get it scanning in practically no time at all.

I am certain there are other members here who will be able to help you further, should you need it.

Thanks Jack, I'm pretty familiar with this scanner, but that manual does make it a lot easier to understand.

  6. To: Anyone familiar with setting up the WC Trunked System

I'm having a rough time setting up the trunked system on this RadioShack PRO95 scanner.

    Frequencies:

    North Zone: 470.57500 (Control Freq)

    South Zone: 476.23750 (Control Freq)

The info I got from RadioReference:

    FTG.gif

So I gave it a shot in programming it in, and here's what I get:

    ERROR.gif

I'm not really sure what I'm doing LOL - So if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. I read over the info on RadioReference about the Trunked Systems, and how it works and whatnot but apparently I don't understand it enough to program it in.

  7. Ok got a new protable scanner for Christmas, haha. Anyways been listening to it. I have looked for who or where this Frequency is located. 154.20500??? Like 10 min ago a department was dispatched to a working fire at a pizza place. Also, heard differant equipment dispatched to MVA's on I-84. Hopefully, someone can help me. Thanks guys and gals.

    Thomas

According to RadioReference.com - that frequency is used by the City of Rye FD.

    http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1884

I also quickly looked through, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, and Rockland Counties with no luck.

  8. If the insurance and liability issues could be sorted out - I think it is a pretty good idea. I'm not in favor of loaning it to other departments, but as a Muster Truck it would be perfect. That Mack/Baker would be GREAT! Always loved the look of those.

Question: If the truck was purchased outright (paid in full) - it would only need liability insurance, and not collision correct?

[edit] Also, would it have to be registered with DES as a tower-ladder / ladder / spare?

  9. I figure I should add my $0.02 in here:

I have to agree with Raz - if you're a captain - you're just that a captain - not a shift supervisor or whatever other term they (the city, dept., etc) choose to use. It saddens me that volunteers and career guys don't get along which is why I support both sides and wouldn't EVER say/do something without looking at both sides. It drives me absolutely insane when I see/hear about the politics involved in giving guys what they deserve. WE ALL HAVE TO GROW UP, and stop thinking we're better than one another - do career guys have more training for the most part? YES. Do volunteers have more time (usually) to make calls YES. There's pros and cons to both sides, so why not bank on that and make the best damn fire department possible?

I'm not one of those volunteers who could care-less about the career guys, on the contrary I want them to be happy otherwise whats the use of working? I've yet to meet a career firefighter who hasn't taken me under his wing, showed me the ropes etc, and I appreciate that and I'm all for doing whatever I can to make sure everyone is satisfied. If it was my decision, there would be Career Officers, and Volunteer Officers - that way everyone is happy and there is no more of this nonsense and animosity. IMO Adding career officers would benefit EVERYONE. We have to look out for each other regardless, so lets do it in a way that everyone is happy and benefits.

  10. 1. Not having to write your life story to be "verified"

    2. Not being picky in what members write and how members write.

    3. Let people actually speak their mind without being censored.

    ...... Just a few

Agreed, the only thing I can disagree with slightly is that some people simply can't write simple sentences, so I understand the practice of editing posts. I think that proper English should be utilized as much as possible because it's hard to understand people who don't know how to spell, or use proper punctuation. However, the practice of re-writing entire posts is another story. As for being 'verified' If it's a necessity to post, then ALL members who post should have the information filled out, I've seen 'staff' members who don't have the 'required information' filled out.

Also, I understand that certain topics should be locked after a while (having owned and managed forums in the past) but when I look through the forums, the good majority of the topics are locked. Maybe the time limit should be extended so that older topics can be resurrected without having to PM a moderator to get it re-opened, or making a new topic and being told that it's been discussed countless times etc.

    Hope that helps Seth.

  11. Which is a good thing. Here in Texas, the DOT and highway contractors use amber and blue lights, because blue has proven to be extremly effective in multiple types of weather/light conditions. Kudos to BHFD for yet another progressive safety measure.

Playing devil's advocate for a second: laws are laws - V&T states blue to the rear only on police vehicles here in NY.

Personal opinion: There should be a standard for all emergency vehicles, if it's proven to be a safety measure why allow just PDs to do it?

Back on topic though since this shouldn't be turned into another blue light thread. Anyone have an answer to my previous post?

  12. Looks great, always a fan of white and gold-leaf together. Good luck with it.

Question: Full size lightbar + interior lightbar? Is it really more effective? From what I've seen with other similarly equipped vehicles, it's been overly bright to the point of blinding other drivers. IMO brighter isn't always better.

(Not criticizing either, just wondering if it's proved to be more effective with you guys.)

  13. The guy received lots of support for his helmet but the fact is the Chief is 100% correct in his statements and decision. First of all, the helmet is a part of the uniform, with rules and regulations, and no firefighter should be altering his uniform, regardless of how good his intention is.

Second, and more importantly, this helmet is an improper way to display the American Flag. This isn't only my opinion, this is according to Section 8 of the Flag Code of the United States. This brother is a military veteran and should know better. It was stated in the arcticle that the Dept. allows small stickers on the helmet, so the proper thing for him to do if he wants to show his patriotism is to get a flag decal and wear it properly.

I provided a link to the flag code for you to read. Once you do you'll see just how much our flag is disrespected and improperly displayed on a daily basis. People think they have the right to paint red, white and blue with stars and stripes on whatever they want in the name of patriotism but actually noone, including war veterans, firemen, cops, etc. has the right to change the way the flag should be properly displayed.

It represents our country, the greatest country on this planet. It should be given the utmost honor and respect.

    flag code - http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagcode.htm

    other interesting info - http://www.ushistory.org/betsy/flagetiq.html

I agree with you 100% - It's not allowed by uniform code, get rid of it. Rules are rules.

  14. Attached are pictures of a “Hydrogen Generator” that was recently found in a vehicle.

    http://firefighterclosecalls.com/fullstory.php?72466

Also, there's a PPT presentation here with some better pictures of the device.

    http://firefighterclosecalls.com/fullstory.php?71941

    Has anyone seen these before?

I'm not sure how much hydrogen gas these things could produce, but being that hydrogen gas is flammable, should we be concerned with the gas accumulating and finding an ignition source (more than 4% accumulation according to the research I just did) Any special precautions that should be taken when dealing with this kind of thing?

  15. Who can't? I do my job to the fullest every single day. Anyone who practices with the litigation, the sky is falling cloud over their head is determined to make mistakes or not do the best for their patient. Protecting yourself is not that hard. Patients are not stupid and have the right to make informed decisions on their behalf. Explain to them everything your going to do so there is no confusion. If they refuse and it is critical for your assessment explain that to them. If they refuse then you have to find another solution or do the best you can. If they have chest pain, tell them that you are going to palpate their chest, but lets keep in mind you're not there to grab their breast. How many times has any of us had to deal with a large breast when placing EKG leads? Do it in an appropriate manner (lift it with the back of your hand) after you explain to them what you have to do will limit your problems. Gyno problem? Unless its child birth or an impaled object you often do not need to come close to that area. Internal exams are above our level of practice and if a woman is in labor most could give 2 craps if your looking there or not if your helping them "get the damn thing out"."

Not that the job can't be done to the fullest, just the thought that you can be accused of wrong doing when in fact you're just doing your job. that the world we live in. I'm a relatively new EMT, and that thought is always running through my mind. I've been able to keep that under control for the most part and get done what needs to be done, but for some people it could lead them to make mistakes just because they're nervous/uncomfortable.

So in the end...do your job to the fullest....and you won't have any issues in either direction. Accusations or lack of appropriate care.

    Agreed 100%

  16. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28179848/

While I understand there are some MAJOR sickos among us in our profession... I feel like the way this article protrays EMS is that we are all out to have some 'extra fun' with our patients.

    SIGH....... <_<

Aside from those sickos, everybody's looking to sue someone. EMTs/Paramedics can't even do their jobs to the fullest because of nonsense like this. Off-duty is another story.
