  2. I'd love to have it as a collectors piece if only I had the room-great find and thanks for the photos Dan!

Ossining guys....what's the story behind this engine? When was it retired?

Even if it's not saved as an antique, if it's not being actively used, I am sure there is some poor rural department somewhere in the US that would LOVE to have an engine like this...

Tarrytown had an old 1980 Hahn similar to this one that was donated to a dept in Tennessee.

Westchester and Rockland Marine Units along with Tarrytown VAC toned out for a possible jumper off the Tappan Zee Bridge. Vessels began searching southern sections of the TZB for the Victim. During the search, the current began to shift north, search expanded north of the TZB. Approx. 25 minutes into the search it was reported the NYSP believed the person jumped 45 minutes in the past. Piermont 13 Marine was preparing to place divers in the water and NYPD was being contacted for Aviation support. At approx 0430 a civilian sailing vessel reported that they heard someone yelling for help approx. 2 miles south of the TZB, center channel. All vessels responded to that location to assist. While responding, the civilian vessel reported having a life ring on the victim standing by for assistance. Piermont 13 Marine was first vessel on scene and deployed divers. Tarrytown Marine 5 and Nyack 10 Marine arrived on scene moments after and NYPD Aviation also arrived on scene at that time. 13 Marine rescued the victim and transported to Tarrytown dockside where 81-B1 and Greenburgh EMS were standing by. The victim was conscious and alert and was transported to Westchester Med Center. All units clear approx. 0500.

    Good Work to All involved.

  4. Chief, I got to thinking when I read your post. Crawling is excellent, but I feel like often times when we drill and/or take classes at the county, we are always given that sheet of wax paper that everyone hates to put in our SCBA mask. I think that the wax paper doesn't create a situation for firefighters to look up and "monitor conditions overhead." Honestly, I realized that when I'm doing my search or what have you, I rarely think to look up because I can't see anything no matter what I do. I know that the wax paper is supposed to help us understand that many times we won't be able see much in fire conditions, but I don't believe that it teaches us good tactics either.

    Any thoughts?

  5. All boat crew members must have a First Aid, CPR, and US Coast Guard Boating Safety certifications. Our vessel has firefighting and medical capabilities (on the Hudson you will find certain boats are geared towards different operations). Spare turn out gear is kept on the dock box for members to use for fire fighting operations. While many believe that wearing structural gear with an SCBA will way you down, our department was shown in a water rescue course that it is possible to stay afloat wearing full turnout and SCBA. The vessel has FLIR capabilities to search for victims in the water. We often go out with departments from our surrounding area and from the Rockland side as well.
