Can not be followed by conventional scanner buffs.

And don't forget that Nigerian Banker that is looking for you to hold the hundred million dollars for him. He just needs you to send him ten thousand dollars so he can afford to wire it to your bank account after you also send him the account and routing number but he is going to split it with you because you are a friend.

The article ran on Fox News highlights the University of Maryland Police's decision to initiate a Tornado Warning based on what they believed was credible information from AccuWeather even though the NWS had only issued a watch. It highlights some interesting issues. Had they sat on the information and NWS been wrong and AccuWeather been right fingers would have been pointed for the blame of possible loss of life. The real issue here is when is it being proactive and when is it the boy who cried wolf?

Seth, unfortunately at the speed that government works with all the committees, hearings, etc it would probably be 2021 before the first drop of water ever was able to flow and then it would be for the monsoons and to pump all the water OUT of Texas after the ground became rock hard from 10 years of drought.

Aside from the generator anyone know if it carry any other equipment? Definitely beats towing a trailer.

Does not appear to be much longer than a haz tac or rescue medic bus. Photo credit: firedude

I have a problem with the logic here. Did these seven men join as firefighter or EMTs. To lose 7 qualified firefighters because a fire service is trying to justify its existence by doing medical calls due to a decrease in fire calls is a shame. Throughout the country Fire departments have entered the medical response system to ramp up the number of runs per year. Even FDNY started doing it with the CFR engines in the late 1980's before the take over of NYC EMS from HHC in March of 1996.

They needed to fill an empty bay in the garage. On a serious note, it looks like an MCI support unit based on all the material I have been able to see online. To be honest it things like this should not be kept secret and made common knowledge so that everyone knows the resources available and their capabilities. With the capabilities of the internet these days DES should create a web page(s) dedicated to each specialty vehicle an detail the capabilities of each. It would prove of enormous value to everyone concerned and show the public how their dollars are spent.

Looks like a viable option.

I can see it now: That's not syrup, That's Grandma!!! lol

Hard stops either in a rear facing stretcher or sideways facing one should not occur if the apparatus operator is driving in a prudent and safe manner except under what would be "accident avoidance" conditions and this aggressive maneuvers should be minimized if not non-existent during patient transport . Sideway facing stretchers are not new. A large number medivacs have their stretchers sideways mounted for space reasons and patient transport position is not questioned. Regardless of the stretcher position the primary goal is safe, expeditious patient transport to a medical facility. As I said in my recent post, my only concern was that during commitment to patient transport the service has essentially two pieces of apparatus unavailable. If this is a secondary transport option and it improves patient care as a bottom line then I would consider it a unique solution. I would be interested in seeing how often it is used for patient transport if at all. I guess it is like air bags in a car - they are an added expense, almost never used but when they do go off you were glad you spent the additional funds to install them.

Voltage1256, there are actually degree programs offered for the paramedic and EMT tracks. What you need to do is think outside the box, e.g. not just look at the 6 month EMT course but research some of the community colleges that offer these programs. Look at Westchester Community College for a start. They offer an A.A.S. degree on the paramedic track. Follow this link: http://www.wccems.com/. also this PDF that has info on the A.A.S. degree in Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic ( 64 Credit Program). Either way good luck.

If not considered as a primary transport unit it may make sense but seems to add a lot more size to a vehicle and in essence a very expensive ambulance with added other costs. I question the fact that you now have an engine that is out of service while transporting and at the hospital possible doing bio-med decon of a "patient compartment". Another thought is how far outside the primary response area is the hospital. This engine if I am not mistaken is located on I-75 just east of Andytown, Fl., the closest ER is Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, FL about 28 miles or 30 minutes away. Justifying a engine doing patient transport and being 30+ min away on a regular basis would be hard on the primary coverage area.

Entergy will conduct a test of all Indian Point sirens in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and Orange counties on Wednesday, Sept. 14, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 14. All the sirens will be sounded for four minutes at full volume followed by an activation of the Emergency Alert System on radio and television stations. This is only a test. No response on the part of the public is necessary. In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound continuously at full volume for four minutes, followed by the broadcast of an Emergency Alert System (EAS) message on radio and television stations. Sirens are not a signal to evacuate, but rather for people to tune to an EAS radio or TV station for information and instructions

I understand the basic position behind the bill but it seem to be focused to specifically at only one group, "first responders". To truly be a effective measure it should be painted with a broad brush and include all persons including the media and general public if the true intent is to protect victims and their families. First responders are best handled by internal rules and regulations not legislative bills. Lets just look at the past few weeks to see that the general public is posting more than the first responders of accident victims. One just has to look at the last high profile thread regarding the motorcycle crash and view the video, a YouTube one at that, and see the number of civilian cameras going. Just my opinion.

Beautiful car. Nice to see the old ones restored to their original beauty.

They already are. The sad part is tragedy sells. I agree some level of respect and privacy needs to be afforded to these victims and their families but as long as ratings are involved and they can lead the news with "Exclusive interview with ....." and string you until the end of the new to see the "exclusive" no comment interview they will continue to do it aggressively .

USGS is reporting that next 12 hours could bring aftershocks with some being as strong if not stronger than the original 5.9. We are not out of the woods yet.
-
Seth I can't agree with you more. Over time they seemed to forget who they started the line for and what it was about. I have a large collection and will be sad to see them go but hey their value just went up!!!

Could see the headlines now, "Bank reposes fire truck from fire scene. Firefighters left holding waterless hoses. News at 11"

Interesting VF has no annual fee but EMT and VAS has an annual fee. Government at its finest.

I do not see why a free standing ED or "emergi-care" center cannot work in NYC. Lets face facts, EDs have become glorified doctors offices for those without primary health care providers and/or insurance. More often than not they are packed with patients complaining of flu like symptoms, minor wounds, etc, and most are treat and releases. While this is not to say that there are not the serious patients that do present to the ED such as MIs, stabbings, auto accidents, etc. by and large the volume could be treated in a free standing ED. The problem would arise in the 911 system as to can an ambulance legally transport to a freestanding ED. I am not sure where that would go.
