  1. Thank you all that came to Applebee's as of 7:30 they raised approx $471, due to the amount of people that showed up, we had to extend the fundraiser after the allotted time, special thanks to Putnam Coordinators, Carmel FD and Mahopac FD that brought many people.

Our next fundraiser is March 12- pasta night

A special thanks to Putnam County Bureau of Emergency Services sectretaries for helping spread the word

  2. We are fortunate that our ambulance and fire are together, so we drill and respond to calls together. We also follow the same SOG's, for your FD's and Ambulance only people many you need to sit down together and find out what it needed to support eachother at calls so Rehab can be done at the beginning of the call. Maybe have ambulance dispatched at the same time, and have that ambulance bring necessary items for Rehab.

  3. And I ask again..... If you get hurt, who will cover the insurance? Stay home, pass high school, learn to drive, train at the fire house wait till you're an active member then go to calls. Why rush? Why do all now and have nothing to look forward to?

  4. The Lake Carmel Fire Dept Explorers will be having a Fund Raiser at Applebees in Brewster on Mon, Feb 21st from 4-9pm. The money the explorers raise will be going to training. They are looking to raise $1,000 before June so they can attend the Explorer Weekend in July up in Montour Falls.

All we need you to do is eat at Applebee's on the 21st between

4-9 and on your out leave your reciept with one of the explorers. Applebees will give us 10% of all bills at the end. Thank you for your support.

  5. ffdexpler states " its the same risk that anyone else responding takes too."

I disagree, you are a teenager, no need risking your life. It is not the same risk, they are fire fighters and have been trained, you are only a Jr. live life, train and don't burn out before you are a fire firefighter.

  6. Juniors/Explorers responding to calls is an individual department's decision. This discussion has come up many, many times in this forum, and I ask the question again- If an explorer or Junior is hurt or killed or even worse hurts or kills someone else who's insurance covers it? If it is a member then the department takes care of it. Explorers are insured by the Boy Scouts- they will NOT cover it, what does the insurace for the Juniors say? Many of you wanting to respond to call have been driving under 2 years, you mix unexperience driving, and adrenalin you looking at an equation for distaster. As teens you say it wiill never happen to you- Well it has happened to 4 explores/juniors nationwide learn from them. I understand you want to be there and do stuff, but check with your department's insurance and find out what happens if there is an accident, and check with your insurance as well. Then decided if driving to a call and responding is worth it. If you decide to drive, then all I can ask is drive carefully.

  7. Members responding to calls need pagers, Explorers and Juniors who are not responding do not need them. An explorer or junior who has a pager is more likely to drive to the scene and try to help-which is very likely to cause problems. In a few years they will be members and will be entiled to all rights and privalges of a member. Right now they should be training and be thankful that they are in a dept w/ a jr program.

  8. At 16-18 years old you are just getting your license and learning to drive, add a structure fire to that and now racing to a call and only be an equation for distaster. There have already been 4 explorers/jrs killed nation wide in the last 2 years for responding to calls- why add to this??? If an explorer/jr gets into an accident responding to a call whose insurance covers it? If they get killed are they covered under LODD benifits? Chris Kangas was a jr from PA killed responding to a call and got nothing, why put familes through this, It is for the above reasons our explorers do not have pagers or respond to calls.
