Starting out generally doing transports at transcare or westchester ems or another company that does transports, and then working your way into 911. Since the summers right around the corner summercamps pay emts pretty well to hand out bandaids.

If your 18, your choices are limited to the few agencies that will hire @ 18, Playland EMS, and whatever day camps are around. And like its been said, your going to be stuck in transports for at least 6 months prior to getting even looked at for 911 shifts. Getting a good job in EMS relies on two things: networking and paid 911 experience otherwise your looking at working ALOT of transports. If your willing to make the trip, you could apply with Alamo EMS up in Dutchess/Orange/Ulster County - they run a combined system of transports and 911 so your able to pick up a few jobs between transports.

Summer Camps are definitely a great place to make easy money handing out bandaids and putting icepacks on booboos but not so great for experience. I would reccomend starting out with a paid transport company like Alamo, Empire State, Transcare, Westchester, or one of the million others that are out there and then volunteering with your local VAC or VFD to get some 911 experience in early.

Just know whatever VAC experience you get, while valuable, is unlikely to be considered when you go for employment.

Mt. Pleasant Recreation Day Camp is looking for an EMT. I had the position last year and its a great, fun job. The money is pretty good too. You can contact the Recreation Dept in Mt. Pleasant (1 Town Hall Dr, Valhalla, NY) for more information. You can ask for Steve, he is the Director.
