did they have to pay any hidden fees like taxes for the work or anything? just wondering. other shows give you everything for free and you just have to pay the tax on whatever was done.

IT would probably fall under Federal taxes as a "Prize"....similar to winning a large cash prize on a game show or taking home sizable gambling winnings.

I'm probly wrong in saying this, but I think a lot of the stuff is payed for by the sponsors, if you noticed, the commercials during the hour were a lot of the products that were used on the house.
