HASTINGS-ON-HUDSON - A Hastings woman in her 30s was seriously injured when her car slammed into a tree overnight on North Broadway, village police said.

The woman had just left her home and was driving on North Broadway at 12:07 a.m. when her car hit the tree, police said. She had to be extricated from the car.

The woman, whose name was not released, was rushed by ambulance to the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. A helicopter was requested to fly the woman to the medical center, but due to the weather it could not fly, police said.

Police do not yet know the cause of the accident. Because of its seriousness, village police called in the Greenburgh police Accident Investigation Team.

The driver was apparently wearing a seat belt, and her air bags deployed, police said.
