New Fire Chief Elected in Ossining

Written by: Mike Pollock

Ossining Fire Chief Mauro Santucci congratulates incomming fire chief Thomas Reddy and his family.

12/04/06 - The Ossining Fire Department elected a new Fire Chief last night. Ossining Firefighter Thomas Reddy was elected by his fellow firefighters to serve as Ossining's next 2nd Assistant Fire Chief starting in January. He'll hold this position for two years.

1st Assistant Chief Fred Steneck will move up to Fire Chief and 2nd Assistant Chief Pete Connolly will move up to 1st Assistant Chief. The current Chief, Mauro Santucci, will step down after serving six years as Chief and Assistant Chief. Chief Santucci said he's enjoyed serving as Chief, but is ready to step down. "It's time," he said.

Reddy is no stranger to serving Ossining. He's been a member of Ossining's Senate Hook & Ladder Company (Ladder 41) since 1976 and his family has been involved with the fire department long before that. His Great Grandfather, Joseph Reddy, was a Fire Chief in Ossining from 1901-1907.

Chief-Elect Reddy was on the Ossining School Board from 1990-1996, he is a funeral director at Dorsey's in Ossining, and he has been employed by the Village of Ossining Police Department for the last 24 years, the last 18 of which he has been a Detective. He is also a New York State Fire Arson investigator.

Chief-Elect Reddy's son, Thomas Jr, is following in his footsteps. The Fifth-Generation Reddy is a member of Ossining's Junior Firefighting Squad, the Venturing Team.

Congrats to Tommy, I am sure he'll do a great job.

Also, it has been a pleasure for us guys from "Ossining's 7th Engine" (Croton FAST) to work with Chief Santucci for the past six years. We look forward to the years to come and wish Mauro the best of luck and a tip of the hat for a job well done!
