Mohegan Haz-Mat Incident 8/13/04

15:05 hrs-1745 hrs

Lakeland Copper Beech Middle School, Old Yorktown RD (Rt 132) in Yorktown, Lake Mohegan Fire District.

Description: Mohegan FD responded for HAZMAT Condition in pool area. Upon arrival, it was found that there was an accidental mixture of Hydrocloric Acid and Chlorine in pool area of school. No vapor cloud or spill, but high concentration of fumes in building. An immediate search of building was performed to confirm all occupants are out. Ladder 10 set up decon with (1) 1 3/4" line from front bumper and a 2 1/2" supply line from hydrant to truck. Westchester County HAZMAT Team, County Health Dept and NYS Environmental Conservation PD responded along with Yorktown FAS Team Mohegan FD VAC and Yorktown Medic for precautionary measures. Situation under control by HAZMAT and school vented. All units picked up at 1745 hrs.

Units assigned: Mohegan L-10, L-35, U-40, 69B2, 2261, 2262, 2263, 2266, Yorktown FD Rescue 16 and 2533 with FAST, Battalion 15 and West. County HAZMAT Team, Health Dept, NYS DEC PD, Yorktown 34-Medic-1 and Yorktown PD.
