MAMARONECK — The village’s Board of Trustees approved a bond resolution for about $8.9 million to fund a new fire house on Palmer Ave.

The new structure will house the Hook and Ladder Company, currently located on Mamaroneck Ave. in addition to the existing Mamaro Engine Company.

The average homeowner should expect to pay about $112 more per year for an average property assessment of $15,000, village clerk said.

The total amount authorized for the project is $10.2 million.

The 4-1 vote, taken at Monday’s meeting, set in motion plan to raze the old firehouse building on Palmer and Mount Pleasant Avenues to build a larger 23,000-foot building.

Mayor Phil Trifiletti said plans for a new fire house have been discussed for the last 12 years.

“This is a fire house designed for the next hundred years — not just the next 10 years,” Trifiletti said.

Subolo Contracting Corp. of Pleasantville is expected to be hired as general contractor for the project.

The project is scheduled to begin by the end of February and should take about 13 months to finish, Trifiletti said.

The new fire house will have room to accommodate more than four trucks.

The village currently has five fire houses for an all-volunteer fire department of about 220 firefighters.
