OFPC Announced today the following:

It is with regret that the Office of Fire Prevention and Control announces the death in the line of duty of Firefighter John Anthony Canfield, age 46, of the Albany Fire Department, on June 3, 2007.

Firefighter Canfield died of an apparent job related illness. He is survived by his wife, Angela M. DiBacco Canfield; children, John Anthony, Jr., Justin Anthony, and Kaleigh Marie; parents, James and Patricia Prendergast Canfield; siblings, Deborah Canfield, James (Laurie) Canfield, Tina (David) Gryp, Jennifer Stone and Stacey (Blaine) Goverski; grandmother, Joseph Canfield, in-laws, Anthony and Angeline DiBacco, Tony DiBacco, and Michael DiBacco.

The wake is scheduled on Wednesday, June 6, from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet, NY 12189 (518) 273-3223.

The funeral, with full Albany Fire Department and military honors, will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Sacred Hearth Church, Pawling and Spring Avenue, Troy.

It has been requested that no apparatus be brought to the wake or funeral. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Canfield Children Educational Fund, c/o Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Firefighter Canfield and to members of the Albany Fire Department.
