Charred body found GREENWICH 6-28-07

(06/28/07) GREENWICH - State police found a burned body Thursday near the Merritt Parkway.

Officials say the body was discovered near the exit 29 ramp on the northbound side of the parkway. They say the ramp will be closed until further notice as they investigate.

Police say a motorist called around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to report what appeared to be a brush fire. Emergency officials say they found the body when they arrived at the scene.

The state medical examiner's office is expected to take possession of the body Thursday to determine the cause of death.

GREENWICH - State police are trying to determine the identity of a man whose charred remains were found Wednesday night at the scene of a brush fire on the Merritt Parkway, state police said.

The medical examiner's office is scheduled to perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call State Police at Troop G at (203)696-2500.

A brush fire at a wooded area near exit 29 on the north bound side was reported at 10:35 p.m. Greenwich fire fighters responded to the scene and, upon putting out the blaze, found the body of the burned man, state police said.

Detectives from the state police Major Crimes Squad arrived at the scene and began to process the scene for evidence, state police said.
