Body recovered from Hudson

Newburgh – Police have recovered the body of the woman who jumped off the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge Tuesday, State Police told MidHudsonNews.com today.

The 45-year-old woman from Stamford, CT, was recovered from the Hudson River near the bridge around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday by State Police scuba divers, according to Lt. Doug Montijo of Troop T State Police.

Her identity will not be released until Thursday pending confirmation by a relative, he said.

The woman had no apparent history of suicide threats, but may have had personal issues and may have been homeless, said Montijo.

Around mid-afternoon Tuesday, the woman drove her car westbound across the bridge, parked it in the breakdown lane and jumped over the rail. Her body was observed floating and then sinking into the river.
