North Highlands fire district voters OK $4.8 million proposal for firehouse renovations

PHILIPSTOWN - Voters in the North Highlands fire district tonight approved a $4.8 million proposal to make major renovations to the 36-year-old firehouse on Fishkill Road.

"This is just unbelievable," said former Fire Chief George Lisikatos, chairman of the board of fire commissioners. "We took a whole new marketing approach this time around. ... We dropped the size of the project, which dropped the amount we were asking for down, we gave up some of the things we were looking to do and we've got now is what we need. ... We just couldn't be more pleased that it went through."

Out of the 522 people who showed up to vote and the 18 residents who sent in absentee ballots, the votes came in 332-190 in favor of the proposal, Lisikatos said.

Good luck to the building committe and all North Highlands members.

Hmmm funny, the Philipstown-North Highlands Fire District can find $4.8 million dollars for a new firehouse; but the Putnam County Legislature can't find $1 million more to add on to a $450,000 budget for A.L.S. service. Interesting.

Apples and oranges. Both needed, but, one has nothing to do with the other.

I know what you mean, just funny how a small fire district can afford so much money, yet an entire county can't provide that much which would give ALS service for at least 3 years.

That's what happens when you waste money on horse farms, country clubs, and "historic" homes.
