Position: Assistant Fire Chief, GS-0081-11

Salary: $52,650 - $68,443 Annual

Place of Work: US Army Garrison, DHPW, Fire and Emergency Services Div, West Point NY

Position Status: This is a Permanent position. -- Full Time

Duties: Directs the work of six firefighting crews (three per shift) at the United States Military Academy. Crews are engaged in various activities to include, but not limited to, fire suppression, technical rescue, hazardous material response and containment, emergency medical response, facility fire risk surveys and public education campaigns. Directs operational activities for three fire stations including care and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Assigns work other than firefighting as required. Discuss fire hazards and deficiencies with responsible installation officials. Recommends solutions and compliance measures for special situations. Oversees fire reporting data and reports to higher headquarters, insuring accuracy and timeliness. Prepares accident and injury reports and performs after action investigations. Participates with local community emergency service organizations. Acts as Fire Chief during scheduled and unscheduled absences.

Qualifications: General Schedule SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience at the GS-9 level. Specialized experience is experience in management and oversight of Emergency Response; fire fighting, fire prevention and emergency management theory and techniques. Current state drivers license. Maintain certification of basic EMT. Subject to periodic travel. Inclement weather essential position. The experience described in your resume will be evaluated and screened for the Office of Personnel Management's basic qualifications requirements, and the skills needed to perform the duties of this position as described in this vacancy announcement. Other Information: May require shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays and in other situations. Permanent Change of Station (PCS) expenses will be authorized.

Other Requirements:

Position is designated as Emergency Essential.

A medical examination is required.

Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.

You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.

License/Certification: Fire Off III, Fire Inspec II, Fire Instruc II, Haz Mat Incident Commander

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

Direct Deposit of Pay is Required.

Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
