A yellow bus? Sort of ... Kids ride to school in fire truck

WAPPINGERS FALLS - Seven-year-old Alliyah Rich and three of her friends rode to school in style Tuesday morning, pulling up in front of Sheafe Road Elementary School in, of all things, a bright yellow fire truck.

Rich won the trip for her friends as part of a Fire Prevention Week poster contest hosted by the New Hamburg Fire District in August. One winner from each grade, kindergarten through fifth, won a trip to school on the fire truck with three friends, and a $25 Visa gift card.

I think this is great for kids and help with fire prevention also. It is also a good PR tool for us. I wish more departments could do something like this or something similar. Heck, what kid doesn't like a fire truck?!
