NORTH SALEM - Fire investigators were trying to determine the origin of a blaze that caused extensive damage yesterday to a circa 1790 farmhouse.

Croton Falls Fire Chief Brendan McKenney said nothing appeared suspicious about the 1:25 p.m. blaze at the Samuel Wallace farmhouse at 1 Wallace Road.

A quick response by firefighters from Croton Falls, South Salem, Brewster and Ridgefield, Conn., likely saved the white farmhouse, which fronts Titicus Road, less than a mile from the Connecticut border. Firefighters from Bedford Hills and the Mill Plain department in Danbury, Conn., also responded.
