Southington, CT- CSP Trooper Struck 5-18-08

Time: 0950 hrs

Location: I-84 Southington

Frequency: CSP Trunked/LifeStar 155.385

Units Operating: Southington/CSP

Description Of Incident: An "off duty" State Trooper who had pulled over a vehicle and was in the process of writing the driver a summons, was struck at high speed from the rear while sitting in his police cruiser. the officer does not have life threatening injuries but because of the nature of the accident was LifeStared to Hartford Hospital. The other driver was transported by ground to St.Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. State Police have shut the highway down in both directions and it is reported to be closed for 6-8 hours while the accident investigation is underway. The troopers vehicle did have it's emergency warning lights in operation when the accident occured.
