NEW YORK -- A police officer was shot in the hand in a confrontation with a crime suspect on Monday.

Michael McLaughlin, 33, a 7-year veteran officer encountered the unidentified male while patrolling in the Brevoort Park Houses on MacDonough Street in the Ocean Park section of Brooklyn at about 8:12 p.m.

He discharged one round and took a single gunshot to his right index finder.

McLaughlin was taken to Jamaica Medical Center and listed in stable condition, police said.

No arrests have been made yet and authorities said the investigation is continuing.
