Pelham 38-M1 Radios

8 posts in this topic

Just wondering about the radios in the photo of 38-M1. Why are there 3 seperate radios? What frequency ranges do they cover?

The probably cover all three major bands: UHF, VHF Hi, and VHF Lo. The are probably Motorolas (looks like it anyways) and Motorola does not make a dual or tri band radio.

3 separte radios is the way to go.

1 - for the sole reason of being able to hear all 3 bands

2- motorola makes the dual band single head, only proble is that when a channel on one band is in us or being transmitted on, the other is virtual useless.

Also if you were to use the motorola dual band setup you run into a big $$$$$ factor. It only works with the top of the line radios.

Guys...

Hate to bust your bubble, but Motorola hasn't made a dual band radio since the dual band Spectra set-up. You can do dual-head/single band with the radios in the picture, which are either CDM-1250's or 1550's (not sure from the photo). Yaesu/Vertex and Kenwood (most commonly purchased around here) are the only commercially available dual-band single or dual-head radios around these days.

not true motorola makes a single head dual band radio, CFFD, has 2. only problem as stated is when one band is in use, the other is useless.

correct motorola SP model spectra's were multiband in UHF/VHF you could only transmit on one band at once but you could listen to both bands at once.
