Hudson River Incident 6/18/08

Croton Marine 12 was dispatched to the Hudson River south of Croton Point for a sailboat taking on water. Ossining FD's Marine 14 is presently Out of Service, but 2334 and other members of the OFD "grabbed" a boat at Westerly Marina and responded. Car 2331 had a visual on the vessel and updated units that all parties aboard were in the water. The "OFD Boat" and WCPD Marine 4 grabbed the six youths while Croton FD Marine 12 assisted in recovering the sailboat and brought it to dock. A good operation by all agencies (and there were a lot of 'em!) with a good end result. Ossining EMS was standing by at Westerly, while Croton R18 & CEMS 55B2 staged at Croton Point.

I saw a fire boat going north around that time in the Hudson just north of the GW bridge. It may have been an FDNY boat or one of the Jersey boats ie, North Hudson or Jersey City FD. I think it is a good thing that we have the boats that are now out there for the use. It was hard when it was only the FDNY that had the boats on the river and most of the time it was an hour or more for the ETA.

According to the Journal News ( and we know how accurate that is ) Rockland County SO and Orange County SO marine units were also on the scene. That's 9 boats. Westchester County might need a Maritime Coordinator for DES as well as a floating Field Com
