Time: 0259hrs

Location: 2090 Albany Post Rd. NYS Veterans Nursing Home

Frequency: 46.26 and fireground #6

Units Operating: VAFD E225, Montrose 2271, E121, E122, TL8 and Buchanan and Verplanck FD's standby in quarters

Description Of Incident: Montrose VAFD, Montrose dispatched for Automatic fire alarm and a call from NH staff for report of fire in Eagle Point unit. Buchanan and Verplanck FD standby in their quarters.

Writer:

0259hrs- Units dispatched for automatic fire alarm with a call from staff stating unknown type of fire in the Eagle Point unit. Montrose VAFD- received the run E225 enroute.

0301-VAFD E225 on scene out investigating.

0303- E225 crew reporting heavy smoke in the Eagle Point unit, staff reporting fire in Rm #141. Crew made entry to patient room, found fire adjacent to the bed. Ended up being a fire contained to a Surge Protector, computer tower and night stand. Fire knock down using a water can, and unplugged all electrical components. Further investigation showed a water leak in the overhead AC unit, which shorted out the surge protector. E225 crew requests ventilation. VAFD also notified security to call maintenance staff to respond.

Montrose FD handling ventilation, E225 officer and MFD 2271 put situation under control. Buchanan and Verplanck FD's stand down, no need for further resources at this time.

0400hrs- All units in service and returning handed over to NYS Vets NH Maintenace staff.

***Side Note-NYS Veterans Home is a single story wide spread structure with approx. 250+ patients.
