THE TOWN OF GREENWICH ANNOUNCES

AN OPEN COMPETITIVE EXAMINATION

FOR THE POSITION OF

Public Safety Dispatch Telecommunicator

(List to be developed for future openings)

SALARY RANGE: $39,432 - $54,454

(40 hour work week)

Your application is a critical component of the examination process. The “Revised 4/08”

application must be fully completed and signed and should contain all the information to show that

you meet the minimum qualifications as stated on the job description.

DUTIES: Performs responsible public safety telecommunications services involving the receipt and

transmission of emergency and administrative radio and telephone messages over a combined police,

fire and emergency medical communication system. Listens, responds to, prioritizes and directs all

calls as necessary including the dispatching of police, fire and EMS personnel and equipment to

emergency situations.

Work involves the accurate and efficient receipt, routing and dispatching of 911 emergency calls,

emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, radio transmissions and other communication methods

utilized by police fire, EMS and other agencies working within and for the Town of Greenwich in

accordance with specific standards, policies and procedures.

Position reports to the Communication Sergeant or designee.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent;

2. Three years of full-time work experience one year of which must have been in public safety

telecommunications and/or a related field dealing with the public via telephone or in person

communication in a customer service environment within the last five (5) years; or

3. An AAS degree or equivalent college credits may be used for up to two years of the required

work experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of work experience

dealing with the public in a customer service environment within the last five (5) years.

4. Education and experience equivalent to the above.

SPECIAL NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

Obtain and maintain certification as a Public Safety Telecommunicator as required by the State of

Connecticut.

Certification includes, but is not limited to:

• Public Safety Telecommunicator class

• Emergency Medical Dispatch certification

• Enhanced 911 Training

• COLLECT/NCIC

• In-house CTO training

Must be able to successfully pass a background investigation, psychological evaluation and medical

examination.

This position is required to work an eight (8) hour shift, “around the clock” to fulfill seven days a

week, 24 hours a day service. Schedule may vary from time to time.

This position serves a 12-month probationary period.
