The article says 7% pay cut across the board to save 1000 jobs in the county, its just not the police who are effected.

Well, "everyone else" being affected are fellow civil service/union workers, and their fate is indisputably tied to those of the law enforcement members. All the unions are going to face similar problems; therefore it's difficult to have a segregated discussion or dismiss the tribulations of the other unions as inconsequential.
