Rye City Council fires manager after dispute

RYE - City Manager Paul Shew was fired last night by the City Council, which said Shew failed to communicate with the council on projects and didn't carry out assignments....

....Shew had his share of challenges during his tenure in Rye, including persistent clashes with the police union. The Rye police union gave Shew and Police Commissioner William Connors a vote of "no confidence" last year, following a state investigation that found prisoners weren't being properly detained in police headquarters. Building inspections also revealed mold and asbestos in headquarters.
