Hackensack, NJ Tractor Trailer Fire

4 posts in this topic

April 16, 2009 - At approx 1205 hrs. the Hackensack Fire Department was dispatched for a truck fire on Rt. 17 South near Summit Avenue. Since I was photographing the HPD Youth Academy students at Fire HQ's for the FD, Acting Deputy Pawlick and Captain Kallman allow me to ride along on Engine 4. When we turned onto Essex Street from State Street you can see a column of black smoke in the sky. Engine 4 arrives and the crew stretches a 1-3/4 attack line. A short time later Engine 1 arrives and stretches 950 feet of 5 inch hose from Engine 4 to the closest hydrant. The crews from Ladder 1 and Rescue 1 arrive on scene and assist in stretching a second 1'3/4 attack line and checking for any fire extension into the trailer. Bergen County HAZMAT also responded to the scene.
