Philipstown- Unusual Occurance (Snake Bite) 08-04-09

1 post in this topic

Date:8/4/2009

Time:22:20

Location: Lake Suprise Camp off Lake Suprise Rd.

Frequency: 46.380

Units Operating: Philipstown VAC , North Highlands , Fire Medic 1 , Stat Flight

Weather Conditions: Warm

Description Of Incident: 21 year old female camp worker was bitten by a snake while walking to cabin. Dispatch reports of 2 puncture wounds on leg. From the distance between puncture's (at least 2 inches) I estimate the snake at at least 5 foot long and definitely a viper (most likely a Timber Rattlesnake). Pt was transported to Jacoby Hospital via Stat Flight.

UPDATE: I spoke with the camp director today and he said no anti venom was given. The hospital thinks it was a dry hit (more a defensive bite with no venom injected). There was very little swelling at the bite sight with no other symptoms.
