AED Recommendations?

6 posts in this topic

Hello all,

I'm looking to replace our Depts Medtronic LifePak 500 AEDs. I've considered the LifePak 1000's, but understand that a shipping hold has been in effect for some time now. Any recommendations?

TIA,

Heartstart FR2 from Philips. I've used 3 different defibs and while they're all easy to use, I've never seen one take abuse like the FR2.

To the best of my knowledge, you can still buy medtronic products.

If you are going to be purchasing these for a first response or BLS transport agency I would first contact your local ALS provider to find out what monitor/difib they use. I would recommend that what ever you purchase have a compatible connection with what they use, this allows easy transfer of pt care as you don't have to peel and place new pads.

Like 201/65 said, it would probably be best to buy an AED that is compatible with the monitor/defibs being used by your responding ALS agency. Nothing worse than trying to jam your Lifepak pads into a Phillips monitor when the poop hits the fan.

It all depends on what they're gonna be used for.

Just to sit there on the truck - buy the cheapest you can find.

BLS ambulance - go with something rugged, like the LP500. They're tough little buggars.

FD/FR or BUSY BLS ambulance - something rugged, but also consider how much each set of shocking pads are. They ain't cheap!
