Customers of Peekskill Dunkin Donuts warned of hepatitis exposure

3 posts in this topic

The Westchester County Department of Health is giving free treatment for hepatitis exposure to customers of a Dunkin Donuts-Baskin Robbins store in Peekskill where an employee was found to have been carrying the hepatitis a virus.

The employee is being treated, and now health authorities are seeking customers of the store at 422 Washington St. who consumed ice drinks at the shop between April 1 and April 6. The treatment will be offered at Hudson River HealthCare, 1037 Main St. in Peekskill today from 3 to 5 p.m.; tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The treatment can prevent illness altogether or lessen symptoms from exposure to hepatitis A. Most cases of that strain of hepatitis are mild and resolve themselves.

For more information, the health department is reachable at 914-813-5000.

Thanks for the info.

I already called my sister who lives down the block to tell her. She goes there a lot with her husband, my 4 year old niece and less than 2 year old nephew.

Now, my question is....was this a legal resident?

Here is the link to my post from this mornings that includes the press release from the WCDOH. Just an interesting point, while the DOH is saying only "iced drinks" are affected this employee was reported to be responsible for cleaning the store including the food prep areas. This would have allowed him contact with more than just the ice machine that he put his hand in. If his hygiene was that poor as to stick an ungloved hand in the machine what makes them think his actions were any better on the rest of the area. Personally I would get treated even if I had a coffee or a donut. Better safe than sorry.
