Fifth Anniversary of the Deaths of P.O.Shawn Carson and P.O.Rob Nguyen

1 post in this topic

On 25 December, 2005 @ 2010 hrs.the J.C.P.D.-E.S.U. lost two of the finest gentleman to ever wear the uniform. This Christmas was the fifth aniversary of their deaths. On the night in question P.O. Carson and P.O. Nguyen responded to the Kearny, N.J. side of the Lincoln Highway Bridge on a foggy, rainny night to assist at an MVA. Unknown to them the bridge tender raised the bridge to allow a boat to pass. At the time all the warning systems on the bridge were in disrepair so they had no warning that the bridge had been raised and after dropping off a box of flares to the radio car handling the call they went on to resume patrol and met their demise driving off the open bridge span. Within twenty minutes NYPD ESU and the NYPD Scuba Team as well as FDNY Rescue traveled into NJ to assist our divers in locating Rob and Shawn-we could never thank them enough for their professionalism and asistance. P.O.Carson was located immediately but P.O.Nguyen was recovered several days later. The notation at the Law Enforcemnet memorial couldn't be more accurate. "Its not how they died that made them heroes...its how they lived."
