Potsdam (St. Lawrence) - Serious MVA w/ PIN 2-25-2012

Units Operating: [Potsdam FD: 36-1, 36-2, 36-3, 36-4, R14, R40, E49]; [Potsdam Rescue Squad; R263, A265, A262]; [West Stockholm FD]; [Potsdam PD]; [NYSP]

Weather Conditions: Cold, 23 Degrees, Heavy snow, very icy roads

Description Of Incident: Potsdam FD and Potsdam Rescue received a call for a two car motor vehicle accident, callers reporting very serious accident with one car possible ripped in half. E49 was en-route immediately. E49 arrived on scene and reported two car head-on MVA, one car on its roof with one patient entrapped and one car with heavy damage and one patient heavily entrapped. Tools from E49, R14 and Potsdam Rescue R263 were put into operation. West Stockholm FD was requested for their rescue to respond with additional tools as back ups. Door removed from the overturned vehicle and patient extricated, transported to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Potsdam Rescue. Doors and Roof removed off the second vehicle. Patient pinned under crushed dash, dash roll allowed patient to be extricated. Patient transported with serious injuries to Canton-Potsdam Hospital by Potsdam Rescue. NYSP conducted accident investigation. Potsdam FD units back in service around 15:45.

*UPDATE - Both patients were airlifted to Burlington, Vt. The patient that required extensive extrication is still listed in critical condition. Keep this young college student in your prayers.
