Boy saved after falling down shaft in Stony Point

16-year-old suffers broken leg or ankle

A 16-year-old boy was rescued Wednesday after falling 30 feet down a ventilation shaft.

Officials said the boy suffered a compound fracture to his lower leg or ankle and was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla. He is not believed to have suffered any life-threatening injuries.

Stony Point firefighters arrived to Kirkbride Hall, 5 Patriot Hills Lane, about 9:15 p.m. and had to cut into the ventilation shaft’s duct work to remove the teen, said Stony Point Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Huslinger, who noted that the extrication took about 20 minutes
