DUTIES: Serves as a fully trained member of a structural fire fighting

crew. Responds to emergencies, alarms, combats fire involving structures,

equipment, and other facilities. Alternates between working the hose, ladder,

hydrant, rescue, nozzle, salvage and hand line. Operates hose line?s, makes

forced entries, ventilates, performs salvage and overhaul, and administers

first aid to the sick and injured. Periodically performs as a member of the

Fire Branch's Water Rescue Team; Hazardous Materials Spill Incident Response

Team; Confined Space Rescue Team; Trench Rescue Team; Rope Rescue Team; and/or

Vehicle Extrication Team or provides direct support to overall effort.

Participates in daily training and instruction classes covering all phases of

fire protection and fire prevention. Participates in physical drills with all

equipment. Participates in joint training with the MCAF Crash Crew for the

positioning of the equipment, placement of the hose lines and aircraft fire

fighting. Works with Natural Resources/Range Control personnel on the control

& extinguish of forest and brush fires, Environmental Affairs personnel

concerning Hazardous Materials Spill Incident scene control/containment. Helps

Naval Emergency Medical personnel with on scene emergency control response.

Helps in the maintenance of construction, operation, lubrication, testing, and

minor repairs on implements related to fire protection to include all types of

fire pumps (on apparatus & portable), tools and appliances, ladders,

sprinkler systems, fixed and automatic fire extinguishers and the proper care

& hydrostatic testing of fire hoses. May be periodically assigned Fire

Prevention building inspection duties. May stand desk & fire alarm watch.

As assigned will serve as driver/operator of a brush fire fighting, hazardous

material response, or rescue vehicle, engine or truck company. Responds to

reported medical emergency (as a first responder) and renders temporary aid as

necessary.

SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Applicant must already possess Firefighter I

II & EMT certificates.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have one year of specialized

experience equivalent to the grade GS-4 level or equivalent or a 4 year course

of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree. Such duties may

include (1) controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized

military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade;

(2) rescue operations; (3) detection, reduction, or elimination of potential

fire hazards; (4) operation of fire communications equipment; (5) controlling

hazardous materials incidents and/or (6) developing, implementing, or

providing training in fire protection and prevention.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of

education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification

requirements.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the

following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the

knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

Successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or

university with major study in Fire Science, Fire Training, or other related

fields of study qualifying for GS-5 in addition to the required certification

listed above.

Ahhh, my old stomping grounds. Not a bad dept., several decent stations, nice equipment, occassionally grab some fire mutual aid. Otherwise its AFA city. Hmmm should I take a 20-30k paycut and go back to a fed job...naaaaaaahhhh
