Portable Radio Requirements

2 posts in this topic

Does anyone know of any NFPA, OSHA, PESH, ISO or any other requirements or standards that apply to portable radios. What I'm looking for is a specifc number that should be on the rig or that each interior member must be in contact with the exterior operations or any standards that would support the need for portable radios. The guys downstairs are arguing with the moneymen upstairs as the budget rolls around and I could use some hard facts to support my effort (for more portables).

Thanks in advance, You guys/gals always pull through in the clutch!

I don't know of any OSHA regs or anything like that. The way i see it is that every firefighter who goes inside a building or is in any position for the scene to become unsafe regardless of the location or who thier with should have thier OWN radio. If you have the right amount of radios to do the job/suit your department, things can be done easier and quicker, providing people know how to use the radios and when and when not to speak.
