The North Highlands Fire Department will be having a pasta dinner to benefit Police Officer Louie Osso. Louie in an Honorary Member of our department,his wife Maria and sister in law Michelle are associate members and his other sister in law Barbara and father in law Armando are active members. Louie has always supported our department and now it's our turn to support him. We hope you all can attend and support this great cause. The fundraiser will be held at the North Highlands Fire Department 504 Fishkill Road Cold Spring NY 10516 on May 15th from 5pm to 8pm. I just want to thank everyone who came out to support Louie last night. We raised over 3K for him and his family.

A few pictures from last nights fire

The door from the first floor inside the house was kept closed and the outside windows and doors to the basement were burned clean away upon arival. This fire was burning for a while before we got there. Although it looks like the fire was totally on the outside it went up the thru walls into the second floor bedroom. The basement attack was made thru the outside door that was burned off. The basement was a separate apartment although it was the same family

The first handline came off the truck and went into the side door towards the fire room which was the kitchen in the back of the house (where the hose spray is comming from). The second handline was into the basement where the fire started and the third line went up to the second floor. We had a forth line off but I'm not sure where it was deployed. The mutual aid companys helped with pulling walls and ceilings and hitting the hot spots. The village of fishkill tried to shore up the floor between the basement and first floor but with all the beams burned thru it was almost impossible.

Cold Spring Fire took delivery of the new 13-2-1 yesterday from Smeal/Spartan . It will be going back for the mounting and lettering this week and should be in service as some point in April. It is a 2010 Smeal/Spartan 2500 gal Rescue Pumper. .. .. ..

These pictures were taken by my 12yo son within minutes of the dispatch. I live 1 block from the fire and this is what I found when we pulled up. The fire was already thru the roof and walls on the crown st side. The house was built within the last 2 years and has cedar shake siding and I belive the roof was as well . The floors and main beams that were 100 year old reclaimed lumber with alot of polyurathane on the floors. Half the house had a full height basement with the fireside only having a 2 foot crawl space (where alot of fire was hiding durning overhaul. 2 houses and a garage sustained heat damage from the fire also.

Cold Spring's Engine and Village Of Fishkill's ladder in the front of the building were being feed by the hydrant system and Contential Vilage's tanker. North Highlands Engine on Crown street was being feed by North Highlands's tanker and Garrison's tanker. I belive there were 4 1.75" lines 1 2" line and 1 2.5" line on the fire (not all flowing at once). The hydrant system in the village is very old and the pressure is not all that great especially in that spot.

Just another peice of Fire Tradition being taken away from us. When we took our siren down a couple years ago to build the new fire house we actually had people asking if there's no 6 pm whistle how is my child supposed to know what time to come home for dinner ? Now that it's back up we've only had 1 person complain. He lives across the street from the fire house and knew there was a fire house with a whistle there before he moved in.

Just a question to think about. I dont belive Beacon's ladder has a pump on it , if it does stop reading here. If it dosent and the ladder shows up at a working fire first what happens if the only engine they have dosent make it to the scene (breaks down , has an accident or comes upon another call ect)? This could in my opinion cause some serious safety issues for the crews responding and the public we serve. I could unterstand if they want to get rid of the station to have cost on heating electric and maint of the building but cutting out 4 Firefighters and an engine is NOT the answer so save money
