  1. It's a shameful scandal that will only result in poor quality applicants. They are also lowering the hiring standards by now allowing applicants with some felony records. True story. Hoping the local media picks up on this whole thing too. The result will be disatrous for both NYC and neighboring communities like Yonkers that are frequented by NYC criminals.

  2. P.S.

As widely reported in the media, there have been too many auto fatalities and accidents along Central Park Avenue. The intersection of Central at Arlington Street was rated as the most dangerous in the county not too long ago. It's not uncommon for the YPD traffic cops to give out close to 100 summonses during their nightly speed details. No kidding, 100 tickets in just one evening. There are also numerous cars impounded for suspended licenses, and a few arrests for active warrants, etc. So any help from NY State is needed. This is a state roadway.

  3. Police Commissioner Taggart spoke at the mayor's town hall meeting the other night and said he is asking NY State PD to help patrol Central Park Avenue which happens to be a state arterial. The State cops have helped out a few times with County PD on the Thursday night youth detail at the Kohl's parking lot. Hope we can get the state cops here for good, but it may be shakey to pull off.

  4. x635,

The prop cars are here for transport for use in Boston. The company that fabricated them is located in Red Hook section of Brooklyn. They will be towed to Boston when needed. Not sure if they will fake any Boston scenes down here. Regardless, at least none of the film is being shot in Canada. NY State does stand in for other places, believe it or not. Parts of Brooklyn doubled for Boston in Howard Stern's "Private Parts" just to name one example. NYC and NY State are offering financial incentives to filmmakers.

  5. x635,

Because some of it takes place in the NYC area.

And even if they fake some of Boston down here, it benefits the film community in general. Hope they shoot in Yonkers and Westchester. Will post later if I find out any location information. Looks like "Freedomland" is returning to the school on Ashburton Avenue used last week as a New Jersey police precinct.

    Happy Memorial Day to all

  6. Steve, what you saw at the diner was filming of "Freedomland" not "The Departed." Both films are using production offices at 291 Tuckahoe Road.

x635--If you can, take pictures of YPD Foam Unit and L71 being auctioned and are now parked on the Yonkers Avenue entrance at Yonkers Raceway.

Other people are curious about these two rigs being auctioned next month.

    Thanks

    Dr. Zuki

  7. It's for Martin Scorcese's "The Departed" about Boston gangsters and they are filming now in Brooklyn and will be going back and forth to Boston to also film. Not sure if they are shooting in Yonkers and/or elsewhere locally. Anybody finds out, please post.

    Happy Memorial Day

  8. Was visitng Belmont last Saturday for the Kentucky Derby and during the Belmont races, their own ambulance always followed the race horses from the starting gate to finish line. Is this a mandated requirement? If so, why would it not apply at Yonkers Raceway? And any injuries incurred with harness racing would likely be more serious due to the harness wheels and equiment used at Yonkers.

    Happy Weekend

  9. billfitz,

    Thanks for the information.

Why wouldn't the YPD have the responsibility of checking that streets are not blocked? Only they can issue summonses anyway. And does the film crew have to pay the city for the presence of the fire officer? Los Angeles charges film crews to do so.YPD charges $68.00 an hour for Rent A Cop.

I have seen many film shoots in Yonkers where no fire officer was present.

And the film crews have a dangerous habit of blocking fire hydrants with unmanned vehicles in violation of the vehicle and traffic law. When "The Preacher's Wife" shot on Elm Street, there was a fire on nearby Walnut Street and YFD response was hampered due to film trucks blocking both sides of an already narrow street. Some film guy rescued a girl from a window after pulling down burglar bars while standing on a step ladder.

"Freedomland" retuns on Monday night to St. Joseph's Avenue. Prop NJ RMP's are parked now in Grant Park nearby.

    Happy Weekend
