  1. You want them to stop for the Red lights, Try convincing them to obey the No Turn On Red as well -- good luck. SP and Yktn PD could make a killing at TSP and Route 6. If someone doesn't do it to themselves first.
  2. TOO LATE, after many years I dropped Nextel/Sprint about 2 months ago. Yes I miss the Direct Connect with FD/VAC and co-workers, but I refuse to continue paying a premium for inferior service. I went the round of 'HyBrid' phones, pure junk, the service got worse!!! Nextel was the market lead for direct-connect for years. Sprint (Last place telcomm company) 'merged' with them, they decided that instead of working with the major user base (and probably why they bought Nextel in the firstplace), that they would lower the leader down to thier level.. I dont think this change will recover the previous users.. I know I have no plans to move back
  3. EJS must have been tired, he left out the 4 VACS, Is posting a list at 1:20am a problem???
  4. I was 3-4 blocks east of WTC on Water Street working at Chase. Heard about it from a co-worker, we watched out the 12th floor window of our building as the people were running down the street followed by a dense cloud of debris (1st tower to fall). We could not see across the street for 10 minutes. Evacuated our building around 11am and were told "you have to leave the building!", but no direction as to where or how to go, basically GET OUT NOW!!. Walked to NY Downtown Hospital to see if I could help somewhere, was told no, not many patients. Walked to 1 Police Plaza and hooked up with an ambulance heading to 60 Centre Street to stage for triage. Around 3pm were moved to 388 Greenwich St via Ground Zero to continue triage (setup just in time for 7 WTC to fall, and dust us). Worked triage until 10pm, when FDNY closed our site. I walked back to GCT to hopefully find a running train back to somewhere closer to home. It was an experience that I hope never happens again !!! RIP 343 and the thousands of others killed... 7 years, and still nothing resembling a Memorial in NY.. Hey LMDC - Lets pay proper respect to those that were lost... LOSE THE POLITICS AND BS - GET THE JOB DONE NOW!!
  5. Unfortuantely many people have that mindset "Just a Volunteer", and sit right on 30mph, and don't think that "Hey maybe they are going to my house". I had that happen about 10 years ago, followed a guy with my 'green' light going for about 5 miles, right up his driveway to his house.. Ambulance was already on location, I didn't wait for him to say something when I got out of the car, I took care of the patient.. Bet the guy had second thoughts about letting EMS/Fire members go by after that day. Green and Blue are Courtesy Lights, But the public needs to be acknowledge they are responding to an emergency, not on a sunday drive in the park.. thier destination maybe to help someone they know and love..
  6. If the problem was only short-staffed then yes a paid or partial paid system might work, unfortunately internal politics is causing a sizable amount of the issue in many departments. I have seen it firsthand that longtime members (20+ yrs) are taking a backseat intead of dealing to the BS going on in many departments. Can't blame them for getting frustrated.
  7. Per article - Boat w/ Paddles and Equipment.. Would seem to me that they got luck no one was injured.. I would think it is a sizable boat that you could not stuff it in the trunk of a car easily.. Other drivers had to see something.. As EJS put it "Uh Chief -- about the boat..." sez it all, someone forgot to secure it.
  8. I may be wrong, but most church (and other religious venues) are empty 50-80% of the time. As indicated all the facts are not here, but unless there are some circumstance that has created an issue, why not allow the use of the empty lot for ALS intercept. As a provider , I would prefer the intercept in an empty lot vs traffic on the road any day. Does the priest think the passers-by are getting the wrong impression about his congregation (always in need of medical help??)
  9. I guess the "Local Neighborhood Watch" forgot to watch the Cop 600lbs statue walks, and no one sees it , seems to me it would take a bit of time to move..
  10. Didnt see any mention of strobes in the list, especially when the rest of the truck is LED, that is why I was asking..
  11. Proto-type for what they plan to place in Putnam ?? The only thing I see missing is lights on the tailgate, no visible warning lights to the rear, when door is open..
  12. I have seen shorelines fail to eject on our ambulances (usually the line was under tension from cord reel), Great placement for the driver to check. Another trick we learned was put a 2 foot pigtail inline, if the autoeject fails, the cords will seperate when tension is pulled and all you lose is the pigtail, not the reel getting ripped from the ceiling of the bay.. (it has happened!!). Truck looks great, hopefully people will acknowledge it, and move out of the way when responding..
  13. I may have missed something in the prevoius posts, but the patient is located in a would be (basement), is there any issues that could have triggered the episode? Airborne issues related to the construction that could effect rescue personel? The EMS and removal steps looked good above, but was the scene safe to enter?
  14. Are you sure they are watching the Horses ??
  15. Some of them already work for multiple agencies.. You never know what will happen down the road. I am sure they will make the correct decision for thier needs. I don't remember, does TransCare have a no compete clause like Empress used to (or still does) preventing employees from working for multiple agencies in the same area?
  16. Yippee!! We are back to doing County-Wide announcements to help cover calls on the East side of the County.. No, it is not a dig to the east side, they have the call volume.. I just think the affected departments need to step up to assist with coverage, not the county. Some agencies on the west side have hired personel to meet the short fall in coverage they were having, why hasn't the east done the same to meet the need? I have heard from some of the medics that I deal with that they will not be looking to move over to TransCare. So as was mentioned before, Putnam will be losing some very qualified medics again. Lets see what the new company brings to the table in October...
  17. When I was at Empire, we did these medical transport runs with the CO's aboard, I only saw the CO's with their regular handgun, not sure what they were carrying in the chase vehicle between facilities.
  18. I was leaning more towards JCESU's idea -- Windup key, but it isn't a VW....
  19. I am not a firefighter but I think you are correct 'Fully Involved', all it needs is Water and Mashmellows..
  20. 30 or 45 it wasn't my point.. Why send a vehicle Lights/Siren, you are risking the crew, possibly the patient, and all the others on the road. I think any agency would be hard pressed to explain after an accident why they were going lights/Siren for a simple transport.. Unfortunately, most paid services don't want to decline jobs if a crew is not within a reasonable distance or can't get there in a short period of time.
  21. I can only speak of my experience when I worked for them 1.5 yrs ago. If dispatch tells you to go PRIORITY (Lights/Siren) to somewhere, we did it. Personally I never understood the purpose, of going from Kingston to Poughkeepsie lights and siren for a basic transport (45 min travel time), in some cases the patient could have walked to the ER quicker, the NH was that close to Vassar. The crew follows the direction of the dispatcher (even if you think it is crazy). I am open to seeing the new management make it thier own. If I see some improvement I might look for a couple of shifts.
  22. Why is the 'Dept of the Interior' in charge of everything outdoors?? Must be a goverment thing!! Our tax dollars hardly at work..
  23. Chiefmcfuz, I was not looking for any Monday Morning QB when I asked the question, Just facts from other members who have seen more than I have on calls.. I agree speculation on this case and any other should be avoided. No offense should be taken from the question, this site is here to assist all of us in seeing how the job gets done and learn from how they did it. The experience of others is what help the rest of us get better at it. I am sure you and any other member on scene did 110% to help this boy. It is a sad situation. Stuart
  24. CONGRATS.. I am sure this kid will be spoiled rotten, by you and the rest of PVVFD/PVVAC. So where is the 8x10 ??? No pictures yet... Just what the FD needed another provider of NATURAL GAS
