  1. Somers FD has a dive team. Speaking of resources does anyone know if Mahopac Falls still has the hovercraft? I heard that it was out of service. Any one know if its back, that thing was cool to watch.

Hahaha- yes the hovercraft is back in operation... Should have it back on the ice hopefully this week to make sure its up and running after all its fixes and modifications...

  2. Storm sucked, they all do, anyone that thinks otherwise either makes money off of this crap or is sitting at home with nothing to do!!!

I hear Sunday may just be rain now? Anyone know more? I am on days this weekend and not looking forward to ANYTHING.

Last night, couple of the guys were saying they heard it was suppous to be a wintery mix, and nothing major?!? Any truth to this, I havent had a chance to look at the weather lately. Either way, I have a feeling its gonna be a long weekend...

  3. Just to add from the incident alert post...

Units Operating: Mahopac Falls- 19-1-2, 1-3, 4-2, 4-3, 6-1, 7-1, 19-2-1 set up source at Kirk Lake then relocated to the brook ifo the FD, Mahopac- 18-1-1 on scene, 18-4-1? and another chief relocated to MFVFD Station 1, Brewster FD for FAST, PCBES CC4, PCBES Fire Investigation Team, CPD, NYSEG, Yorktown K9 for Arson

The building was approx 20 x 30 summer cottage with heavy fire on the porch that extended back into the kitchen and living room area. Extension was also to a 2 door vehicle on arrival, fully involved.

2 lines operating- 1 exterior working the porch and the car fire and the other entering from the rear of the cottage pushing the fire out the front. Very aggressive attack and Very Quick knock down.

Yorktown K9 called by the Investigation team to search for possible accelerants- dog located 3 areas with possible accelerants. I/T took samples of the area to continue their search and investigation of the fire.

If anything else arrises, ill update on here...

  5. Just want to announce that Mahopac Falls Vol. Fire Department Relay for Life team is going to have a pasta night on May 11 2007 at 7:30pm (friday night) at our Main House, located on Route 6N. $10 per person (children 5 to 10 y/o $5, children under 5 free). All the procedes are going towards the relay for life in June. We would like to see everyone there and tell a friend or two.

  6. Mahopac Falls had our own 3 car PIAA in our district, not even 10 minutes into that call is when our dive team was toned out for the drowning in Putnam Lake- our first ambulance was sent to the PIAA with the second one getting a crew... When we were hit for the dive call Mahopac Fire Dept had their tones hit to assemble a crew for one of their ambulances to either go to the PI or come with our dept for the dive call- either way, it was a Massive C.F. last night...

  7. I think wetdowns are a nice thing.  There should certainly be a ceremony for a new piece of equiptment that is as expensive and essential as a rig.  Its also a nice social event.  However, the pictures depict overkill.  Multiple lines, a ton of apparatus.  I think public perception should be a concern too.

A possible reason for a ton of apparatus is that depts coming in to so call" christan the new trucks"... all depends on how many departments received invitations- thats if they were sent out.. usually with the word out of a wet down, a dept may send a truck or two, and who knows how many departments come- like i said before, its a great bonding time for all departments... Multiple lines- usually there is abig water fight between the deptartments, at least thats how ive seen it done- where the host dept will go against the incoming units, and the main purpous is to drench the you know what out of each other... correct me if im wrong on any of the above info I stated...

  8. I know in Putnam, our fd's dont have wet downs, for what reasons, Im not sure- possibly insurance and what not... But when I went up to my Uncles dept for their wet down, it was probally one of the greatest times I've ever had- great bonding w/ other firefighters and depts, alot of food, and one Huge Water Fight... I def agree with everyone above- that it is a great day and everyone has an awsome time.. I just wish depts down here would actually have them instead of "Drydowns"...
