I think one of the downfalls of no age limit is an older (30-40 yr old) getting the job after working at another job for 10 nyears has a hard time adjusting to the chain of command

Is it me am I the only person that sees a problem here, a FAST team needs to be in place ASAP, I feel most injuries on the fireground occur within the first few minutes of a job. I have seen 2 firfighters hurt bad on jobs and these injuries occured in the first few minutes(seconds) of the job, We as a whole (Fire service Volley or Professional) are rolling the dice when it comes to this. Now some might say what are you going to door you only have negative comments about this subject. This is not true I do set policy in my dept if I did I would have the 3rd due engine at all confirmed fire stay as the FAST team. As for units having FAST certification who cares if they are 15 to 20 min away they could be the engine company from Backdraft I'm trapped, down and dead in under 15 min

Roof ladder is on the outside on YFD rigs

The fire service is not a place to feel bad for an arsonist, the fire service is also not a PC world like the TV and newspaper reports you might here. This kid belongs put away where he can not hurt any of our brothers. You want to help him maybe psychology would be a better field for you

It is not the FF job to maintain a park BUT it is another persons job If they agree to this they are taking away a DPW workers job. Should the FF due maintenece around their firehouse yes, let the Parks Dept take care of the grass maybe when the mayors house catches fire and the guys have to put away the weedwakers and response time is slow he will rethink. Do we get paid to sleep Yes Do we get paid to stay up all night fighting a fire in sub zero weather YES This guys an a$$

I read an article from the Phoniex FD they tested their fast team respnse and on average it took 12 Firefighters an average of 22 min to locate and rescue a downed FF from a building Removing anyone that is down or passed out is a tough job that is Almost immpossible with 1 company

We do not discriminate or do any less for race, creed or color we just do our job.
I feel the same way we go out the door every tour and respond without prejudice every day why not test the same way. The public we serve only cares that we respond and help out. This CREATES racism on the job we are equal in the firehouse and count on each other If I need water, the building stuck or a FAST team I don't give a crap what color they are just that they do their job, anyone given anyting in life will not appreciate it

stuff like this keeps us in business

This is just my thoughts on the subject I worked that night and of all the people we removed on boat or foot NONE were in danger of being killed. This man died I know damm well all companies there did all they could under the worst possible conditions but lets not lose sight of our primary goal LIFE SAFETY flooded homes are not a life safety issue I do not want this thread to go in the wrong direction and I am not bashing the companies or dispatchers

I just posted the same question in another post (Interagency Communications And Command) can anyone shed some light on this

Why wasen't the closest rig that was at a water condition in mamaroneck dispatched with a confirmed person trapped at a structure fire. I am not trying to start a war here I just don't see the facts stated in the newspaper article
Why can't we talk about this? other post deleted,PM if there is a problem

I have to agree with ladder 12 We go to the same homes get there, people say what took so long, I'll do nothing for myself but want to come 1st and want my basement pumped wet stuff moved then floor mopped

I looked at that picture again and noticed a few things ,do we really want to be this encapsulated maybe on a haz mat job but not at a structure fire. lets all remember you need all your senses at a fire I for want want to see hear and feel what's going on around me. we are not fighting fires at the airport That gear looks like it might give you a false sense of security you might stay someplace a little to long

We don't wear them because we don't want to look like dicks
