  1. Id have to assume this replaced that 90's suburban they had running around
  2. did you take any pics of the gutted buildings? they are really cool in person. Whats neat about that fire house is the outside light still goes on at night(obvi it has been installed since then but its still cool) im pretty sure NYSDOT stores some stuff on here.
  3. IMO i believe they are aware of them, but choose not to use them for the fear of not having "total control" over "their scene." From the outside it would almost appear to be some kind of little man syndrome that haunts them. While this is not true for some depts in the county, it is for quite a few.
  4. Great idea, but it will never happen, something is in the water in this county...
  5. Thats the main problem these days, basicly if you are not a resident, you are not getting the job.It sucks
  6. So she was a volly, took a test , did well and became a career cheif??? Hows that work?
  7. I think the term should be changed to uncommon sense. Seems more fitting for the times.
  8. Not for nothing it was a pretty sad showing by the fire dept. inadequate amount of FF's, inadequate PPE on the few who showed.
  9. sometimes less is more
  10. Do these guys carry?
  11. here is my response. As a vol myself I wish more places would hire so I could get on the job. Additionally i don't see anything of that nature that being said in the article...
  12. I vol. for the community and the experience. What "perks" are you talking about? The last meeting i went to for free food was... never. I go to drills, thats it. None of the dance bs or any of that.To me its a job, not a social gathering.
  13. Of course the hazards are the same, but the situation will dictate the way you work.if you have high heat, smoke banked low you be on all 4's. If not you can probably stand, again the situation will dictate. Being taught to stay low as a probie make great sense though. Its easy to walk through a building, but when you need to be down, you have to kow how to do it,best way to go about that is to bang it in your head early. just my .2 cents.
  14. I think you answerd this one yourself. "I do think that the TIC is a great, required tool for all fire departments. It saves damage from having to "open up". However, it should never be relied upon exclusively, especially with newer firefighters" With that said, the basics on searching and firefighting as a whole for that matter should never be forgotten and need to be drilled often, even for the most senoir members out there.
  15. Volunteer and preplanning... hah, that'll be the day, then again it might happen if they offer free food with the preplan excercise ... flame away
  16. Forget about online. how about in the field? Ive seen a LT with a confederate flag sticker on the back of his helmet... Professionalism right out the window....
  17. Imagine if something like this were to happen in Westchester County?? I can only imagine the hissy fits that would be thrown. Good for them, glad to see people stepped up to the plate and made things happen. On a side note. How will RFD provide these FF's? do they plan on hiring new ones or just adding more hours to the current FF's?
  18. sounds like it was a horror for the responders and victims. Multi Car 10 dead
  19. ^^^^^I wish i could rep that more than once
  20. only 60 calls per year . wow
  21. Im pretty sure you have to apply and then take a test. You proceed in levels. If you pass the reading comp then you take the mechanical aptitude, you pass that then you move on to the math and so on . If you pass them all I'm pretty sure they will consider you for employment.
