  1. New York already does require a minimum of 1 EMT on an ambulance, including volunteer corps, and does do inspections of all ambulances statewide. All agencies that are New York State certified are held to state standards no matter if they are career or volunteer.

pretty sure he is referring to the Statewide Unified Protocols, etc. etc.

  2. Yankee Stadium has its own stop on the Hudson Line only open for games. Added train on Game Days (around game times to and from) A awesome addition, no parking woes, no traffic on the Deegan... and another plus is you can drink on the train and during game and not worry about the drive right after the game...

  3. I think that's a question best answered by those in your department (if that's where the issue is) who "think its ok not to show up for a rostered shift." You might try to address your concerns with them and ask them why they have that attitude; I dare say that most people who regularly post here are most likely very active in the fire service and don't have that attitude you've described; all most of us can do is to speculate. I've been in the fire service for over 35 years and only recall hearing that defense used once; the person was asked to resign on the spot at the meeting, but hey not all departments are alike.

Not any real specific incidence just one of the many examples I can think of....

  4. I felt the same way back when I was young, single, and spent every waking second in the firehouse or at classes.

Then along came a full time job, a wife, a kid, a mortgage, another kid, another job to pay for all that......and while I still volunteer - my time is limited and not as much as I would like. Things change.

Those are understanding circumstances and you do what you can, but I am refering to growing population within the volunteer world that think its ok to Not show up to a rostered shift. or classes and use the term volunteer as a crutch to avoid responsibility......

  5. Where in the definition of "Volunteer" does it say lack responsibility? It seems to me to be the ever growing "attitude" within volunteers. Whether it is a new mandate for training , or a change in operations for better overall function of your home dept. It seems to me that the "excuse" of "I'm a volunteer, why should I have to take OSHA," or "I'm a volunteer why should I have to be at my ambulance when I am rostering that time." The last time I checked when I became a volunteer at the age of 16, I joined because it was something I enjoyed doing and wanted to help. Just because you don't receive any type of monetary payments does not mean you cant uphold yourself to the same standards as everyone else. I for one feel that without changing that outlook, volunteers will be a rapidly dying breed. Now for those that don't me, and may think I am "voly bashing" get your facts straight. I have been in my dept for 10 years, and put as many hours as any other active voly. I have not forgotten where I came from, and continue to provide the service and have the attitude as of a volunteer just as I would at work. The main objective of this topic is to answer the following ques. and agree or disagree with the above statement, (Because I am a volunteer I don't have to uphold responsibility.) Is this attitude moral oriented? Is it something that can be changed? If so how?

  6. Never heard of Holzberg, but for cross-band operations, check out the Vertex Standard VX-920. http://www.vertexsta...64&isArchived=0

My latest radio is a Vertex VX-900, and it's a sturdy, dependable, and relatively inexpensive radio. Motorola's got a decent competitor. NYPD is having some success switching over to Vertex.

Transmitting on both VHF and UHF in the same radio is somewhat of an electronic challenge. Even the antenna needs to be able to receive and transmit on both bands.

Motorola owns Vertex as well as Yaesu I do believe....

  7. 412 to XXX - Whats your Location?

XXX to 412 - I'm currently located in the passengers seat of my ambulance.

    *Silence* laughter

412 to XXX - whats the location of your ambulance.

    Laughter

XXX to 412 - XXk nd XXX

okay in order to get this right I must tell the whole story, (we have a development that all the roads are xxxberry) We get dispatched to a road that doesnt have berry in it and I was unsure of address and couldnt find it in the map book. Well we had an open mic apparently while I said "(road name) I dont know where the hell that is" after I realized we had an open mic cuz county raised me another channel, DC911 to XX-62, you make a right outta your firehouse second right on on xxx, first left, and then first left into development, it should be your next right." I got turn by turn directions to the call.

  8. I am still working on fine tuning the color scheme, and adding some more skins for those who like different skins.

When you say "Quote Box", do you mean replying to a post? If so, if you hit the "Reply" button in the post it will automatically quoate, instead of just "Add Reply" at the top of the screen.

Awesome, no the quote box thats in a reply (like above) wasnt showing up but it is there now..... it was just HTML text I believe... I looked at my profile 2day and noticed that some of the text didnt line up within a box, "personal info" was spaced out too far, same as "My Settings · View New Content · Manage Friends · 0 New Messages" above is lower than the light blue... and anything on it bringing you to the top/start of the thread verses the most recent/bottom post?

  9. what kind of ford vehicle are we talking about here anyways???

im sorry ford is not on your list! I understand your situation, but I am partial to ford and think they make the best products. although i am in love with the '03-'05 ram style pickup with the cummins

I'd always rather be Cummin than Strokin too!!!!
